“Hotel and Casino...eehhh”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We stayed in a suite. Unsure if employer booked it as such (doubt it), or the fact that we stood at the front dest for over fifteen minutes until someone showed up to welcome us. (this was after going into the casino and asking for any type of help) No apology or explanation.

Room was a nice size double room, but according to the website, the largest of the rooms. No complaints! Even enough outlets, (which always seem to be an issue with most hotels).
The three pillows on the king size bed were TINY!!! Called, and two more were delivered without delay. Small, too.

The bed was comfortable enough, but the bottom sheet was not fitted, therefore, everytime I woke up I was laying on the mattress itself (YUCK!!!!).

Toiletries were nothing special. Double sink with one outlet, but it allowed the hairdryer and my curling iron to be plugged in at the same time. (better than across the room on the desk!) Shower pressure was incredible. AND the water seem to be less drying than in other hotels.

Most of the rooms are non-smoking, but was awakened (DH and I) in middle of night with a distinct odor wafting across our room. Neither of us could sleep well from that.

Casino was not large, but nice size. Nothing overwhelming. Dealers were not only NOT helpful, but really took away much of the fun we usually experience at area casinos due to their attitudes.

Mexican eatery had nice atmosphere, with good choices. Great staff.

The Grille was great with breakfast (two out of the four were lukewarm). Prime rib dinners were worth the$7.77...no more. Staff friendly and attentive.

Won't return.

“I'll return”

stayed at the RV park in Carson City and had a
great time, even extending our stay 3 extra days...And i hope to
return and enjoy the facilities next year....
when we had breakfast at the Grille on our last day, we ordered
biscuits and gravy which were delicious, however, there was not
enough gravy served, so we ordered an additional small bowl...When
we got our bill, an additional charge of $.99 for the gravy was
included...we talked with our waitress and she said there was nothing
she could do as it was policy (and also listed in the menu)...OK...so,
i consider this CHEAP for a top class casino...and this keeps me from
giving it an excellent rating...

“Next time we'll choose something else.”

We chose the hotel based on on-line reviews. We paid $74 for a double queen room. When you walk in the hotel the smoke smell from the casino is overwhelming. I waited at the desk while two seperate customers argued with the desk staff over their bill. Soon a second clerk was available to help. She quickly checked me in and informed me that the free breakfast was only available to adults who booked the room on-line. What she didn't say was that the a/c only worked with the room key, after another trip to the check in desk complete another angry guest and security staff hovering near by, we figured it out. After the kids checked out the unheated pool, we settled in hoping for a good night's rest. The beds were comfy, but the pillows were flat and uncomfy and the kids complained about the scratchy sheets. The center of the room was clean but room needed vacuumed around the edges, and the bathroom needed a good scrub.

Room Tip: Book on-line and signup for specials.

“Apart from the smoking - enjoyed our stay”

We arrived late on the weekend after trying to get a place to stay in Reno. Had to drive to Carson because of everything 'full' in Reno.
The reception people were outstanding as we needed a fridge for my wife's medication which was brought to our room straight away. We were given a quiet room near reception which was big and comfortable. The receptionist even gave us vouchers for breakfast in the restaurant.
The casino is very smokey but that's the way it is in Nevada.
Good restaurants and buffets near the hotel and very easy to park near the reception. Would definately go back there again.

“Gold Dust West Casino, Great Times!”

We walked into the Casino, and immediately met Matt, the MOD for the day. He gave us a room for the night, which was perfect after a long days walk. We played cards in the casino, and won free meals for the three of us. We met many members of the staff, all very friendly and fun to hang out with. We had an awesome time and were sad to be leaving again the next day...thankfully there are two other locations in Nevada! Reno and Elko. We stopped by the Casino in Elko, and met Shasta, who was awesome! She gave us rooms at the Shilo Inn, and meals for three days! We love this place, and hope to be back again!
