On the way from O'Neill, a very small town, to Valentine, a somewhat larger one, one drives by a sign saying something about being in the middle of nowhere. This is out in the country, no doubt about it, and so finding a well-run, clean motel/hotel is a real bonus. We were up to go tubing in the Niobrara River, a major summer industry in Valentine. As well, the biker hegira to hog heaven in Sturgis was under way, always making for...interesting...road mates. The hotel was full up but no problems. It is a very clean, neat, and comfortable place to stay, an ex-Holiday Inn Express but spruced up some. Front desk help was excellent. Breakfast was the usual cereal, joghurt, juice, toast, some French toast, and mini-omelettes; nothing special but a decent start to the day. We had dinner both nights at the Peppermill nearby. Excellent beef, good bar, nice courteous service, well recommended. It is a long way from anywhere but if in Valentine, these places are just what the doctor ordered. And be sure to check out the stars late at night.
