“Overpriced room; uncomfortable, mushy mattresses.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

We were extremely disappointed with our stay at Super 8. We checked in late at night during a rainstorm, so we were rather desperate to get off I-80. The front desk clerk would not give us a discount even though my husband is an AFT union member. Others checking in around us were getting discounted prices. We paid $90 to stay in a very basic room with a mattress so bad (mushy) we didn't sleep all night. When I complained to the desk clerk in the morning, he was indifferent. He simply said there was nothing he could do about it. We were also not told about the continental breakfast -- found out about it on TripAdvisor, after we returned home. We feel we were gouged by the price, and we were disappointed in leaving in the morning feeling we hadn't gotten any rest. The desk clerk should have given us a partial reimbursement on the room. This room was overpriced by about $40!

We usually have favorable comments regarding our mattresses, however, I understand that there can be individual differences. The mattresses in the reviewers room were new within the last year and are a quality Serta commercial grade mattress. I personally checked it for abnormal wear and neither showed evidence of that. It is impossible to meet the demands of all guests when it comes to mattress firmness/softness. These were tested and determined to be well liked by the majority of users. As for our rates, this is our peak season and we are located on the busiest interstate in the nation in addition to many local events and visitors to Lake McConaughy, Nebraska's largest recreational lake. Our rates are competitive for this time ot year. The guest did not have AAA or AARP to qualiry for either discount, so in fairness to guests who pay for and present their membership cards we must charge the full rate. The guest did not have a reservation and felt that their arrival at 10:30 p.m., and raining outside should allow them a discounted rate. The breakfast room is located in an open room adjacent to the lobby that the guest passes by to check in and the hours are posted on a large logo'd breakfast room sign as being open from 6-9a.m. All Super 8 motels offer a free SuperStart Breakfast, as do most franchises in this category. The front desk associate usually explaines the continental breakfast, however, our reviewer states this wasn't done. It is possible the guest departed from their room without checking out at the front desk causing them to miss out on the breakfast which would have been otherwise noticed.

“I guess its all about the almighty dollar”

Had a baseball team traveling to Ogallala for a tournament and needed a block of hotel rooms for a night. Had quoted us a 10% discount on rooms for a block of 12 rooms. All of a sudden he calls and says they are booked due to some wedding, so in essence what happened is he figured out he could get the extra 10% from someone else so gave our rooms up. Hope the extra $100 was worth it, as I won't be staying at a Super 8 in Ogallala.....ever!

The reviewer called and requested rates for his team rooms but did not want to guarantee them at that point.  Several days later and only a few days prior to his date of arrival he called back, however, due to being one of the busiest weekends of the year in Ogallala, we were completely booked at that point.  I explained the room options we had which were smoking rooms that he understandably didn't want.   I also explained that it could be possible that we would have some cancellations prior to the date of arrival. I'm not sure why the reviewer feels we are responsible for his delay in getting back to make the reservation.  His assumption that I didn't want to rent rooms to his group at a discount is totally incorrect. It was his decision to not make his initial reservation for his team when I had the rooms to offer.

“Super Super 8”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

Was greeted by a very friendly, helpful desk person who processed by reservation quickly. Had a large, single room with good TV, coffee maker, but no microwave or frig. Had some trouble with the wireless internet connection, slow and cut-out occationaly, but could have been the bad weather. Very comfortable bed. Lots of Hot water and a slippery tub when soapy. Overall, a clean, quiet room at a great rate.

“The went out of the way to help, honest people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2010

We stopped for the night at Super 8 on our way home from Yellowstone / Grand Tetons. The room was basic and clean. Good for a overnight stop after a long day on the road. The 5 start rating comes from what happened after we left. After about 10 hours of driving after we left the Super 8, we discovered that one of my wife's bags was not in the car. This bag had all our personal effects & toiletries. Her wallet with all her Credit Cards and Cash were also in the bag. I called the hotel and described the missing bag. They said they found it in the parking lot - I must have set it on the ground when I was packing everything else (our Explorer was stuffed with bags, pillows, etc...). They boxed it up and mailed it to my house. Everything was intact - including all the cash.

“Great value for an overnight stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

I stayed here on my way driving across the country with my dogs. This was one of the less expensive hotels, and it was a very good value for the price we paid (around $55). The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room and hotel were quite clean. Our room was spacious, with a comfortable bed, a fridge and microwave, and decent selection of cable channels. The breakfast was limited, but was actually better than I would have expected for the room price. This Super 8 does allow dogs with a refundable deposit, which is a very fair way to accomodate pets. I would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a convenient, good-priced overnight.
