This matters because the Lied Lodge is in the middle of nowhere - and I mean NOWHERE. I stayed there for a week on business.
First, the lodge. Rustic, with large log columns and a big fireplace in the lobby, which is furnished with lots of comfy mission-style chairs and sofas. It is a very cozy setting, nicely lit.
Rooms were decent in size, and the bed itself was comfortable. However, there are no regular pillows. The 4 on the bed are each about half the size of a standard pillow, if that. Made it extremely difficult to get your head situated - kept falling off or slipping between pillows all night.
Room thermostat is easy to use and does a good job regulating the room. Another plus is that the windows open, so if you need some fresh air, you can get it.
Room has a flat-screen tv, but no fridge or microwave. I asked for and got a mini-fridge. There is usually a charge of $10 for this, but since I needed it for medical reasons, they supplied it free of charge.
Bathroom is small, and the vanity has no storage space. There are no shelves or places to put your toiletries. There is a hair dryer.
The lodge has a very small fitness center. There are, however, lots of trails for walking or running on the grounds.
There is a small lounge area with a fully stocked bar.
All the staff with whom I interacted were just wonderful. They were polite and courteous and did their best to respond to any needs.
Now, the big downside: the food here runs from ok to just not good. Food is not always delivered hot. Orders are sometimes wrong - on one night, wrong twice, the original order and then the recovery effort. The problem is that there are only maybe 4 or 5 other places within a 20 mile radius of here, and about half of those are fast food joints.
So, Lied Lodge is a blessing and a curse. The lodge is the nicest place by far in the area, but the food is...well...not great. I recommend driving the 20 miles to a grocery store and stocking up on items you can keep in your $10 mini-fridge.
