“Great pool & front desk staff vs. shabby rooms & housekeeping”
For this 2 week trip I chose Pine Lodge, despite some poor reviews, because of memories of a pleasant week there in the early 90's with my kids. The pool is still great ~ I used it every day and it always appeared clean and the pool area maintained. Front desk staff was great, and that's something considering the amount of complaints they must deal with. This property has 2 serious issues, housekeeping and room maintenance.
I went home over the weekend, so ended up "experiencing" 2 different rooms, so it wasn't just one bad room ~~ Having housekeeping do your room shouldn't be this difficult.
Example: I asked for an extra sheet to double sheet my bed (front desk kindly delivered it) - housekeeping removed the sheet next day. Called back down to front desk for another sheet and a different pillow. Next day - sheet & new pillow are removed. Call front desk again, leave a note propped on the bed, try bribing them with a tip ($$ was gone, but note was ignored) - on and on for 13 days until I hung the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Then a note is shoved under my door warning me that after 3 days they will enter and "do my room" and "inspect it". When I first saw it on the floor I thought it was an apology. Was I wrong!
I paid extra to upgrade to balcony room - but the furniture and decking was so filthy I couldn't use it. Left a note and called housekeeping - was it cleaned?? No, not once. I spend a lot time in hotels right now due to a special project and have never run across a housekeeping staff so intent on destroying my comfort.
Two maintenance issues were really loud air conditioner units -one had a loud metallic rattle, the other a clanging sound and 2 of the temp. buttons were broken - and screen doors in both rooms (to my upgraded balcony) were so bent and twisted that I ended up just leaning it against the door after it fell off the tracks repeatedly. Welcome bugs!
When I checked out I was frustrated enough to write a note and comprehensive list to the Manager, including details of dates, time and issues not included in this review. It's not fair to write a poor review if you haven't given management the opportunity to fix things or respond so I delayed writing this review to give the manager time to respond via email or letter. I have heard nothing, thus this review.
When I return to Whitefish/Kalispell again in the spring I will select other lodging. A great pool doesn't make up for all the aggravation and extra work to stay here.
