I made a weekend winter trip to Yellowstone National Park for a snowcoach tour with Yellowstone Alpen Guides. Friends had stayed at the Kelly Inn, and I was pleased with the accommodation. Rates are less in winter than the summer high season. Every room had two queen beds, spotless, with microwave and fridge. My room faced north, and that evening outside a sled dog team bedded down for the night in the accompanying van. It was fun to look out and see the trainer feeding each dog after their day of running!
Breakfast is the usual complimentary cereal/bagel,juice. I never know why people complain about these forgettable breakfasts at hotels. They are free, and a bargain for families. There are always restaurants if you want to pay. Fortunately, there is a MacDonalds a few steps from the Kelly Inn, if you want to bring a burger and fries back for dinner. I opted for frozen Healthy Choice Steamers from the local market. Nice to be in the room and microwave a quick dinner.
A good place for the solo traveller, like myself, or for the family down to Yellowstone for a winter snowmobile or snowcoach tour. Remember this is winter, much of West Yellowstone town is quiet with some places closed. Streets covered with snow, lots of snowmobiles driving around town. Be sure to bring Yak Trax gripping slip- ons for your shoes, it is very icy.
Room Tip: upstairs room, north side looks to the town.
There is an indoor pool and jacuzzi on main floor,also...
