“A trip back in time”

The main lodge where we stayed was reminiscent of something from the late 1800's. You expect the stage coach to pull up at any time ! The walls are covered with historical clutter, but it all works in a very charming, floor creaking way. The lodge rooms have various pieces of antique furniture and metal frame beds. The bathrooms are down the hall, so it was not unusual to see guests in night dress or bathrobes going to and fro. There seem to be enough that I never had to wait to have access. With the high utilization, I think they need to do a better job of keeping them clean. The bathmat on the floor was dirty and there were used towels and empty shampoo bottles sitting around.

The lodge seemed run down, but the rates were reasonable and the restaurant was very good. Kudos to the helpful, friendly staff. There is free wi-fi in the lobby and you can ask to borrow a hairdryer from the front desk. It was a kick to soak in the huge warm springs hot tub after a tiring day.

Room Tip: Review the different options and then make a decision on what will work for you. Bring flip flops to...

“A Fun Experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Had a great couple of days here last week. My girl friends did the week night package and had rooms in the lower lodge and i tagged along. I stayed in one of the rooms in the main lodge with the bathroom down the hall. The room was small but very clean, the bed was very comfortable. I picked this room knowing that the rooms in the lodge are not great. The floors in the lodge are all very squeaky so you can hear every person who walks by in the hall or walks around in the room next door or across the hall. If there happens to be a loud group staying on your floor, good luck sleeping because you can clearly hear conversations in the hall and nearby rooms!
With all of this said, the folks in the rooms around mine were quiet on the nights i was there. The bathrooms are very clean and there was always a bathroom available to me when needed. Currently the rate for a room with bathroom down the hall is $55 which is a great price for the experience of being in Chico.
Our dinners were excellent and of course the pool is awesome!!

Room Tip: Spend more money and stay in a room that is not in the Lodge.

“Great Fun”

We stayed at Chico with relatives for a birthday party and it was great fun. We rented a couple of the small cabins up on the hill above the main lodge and they were great; old and rustic just like we wanted. The pool was great as always and the food in the bar was good too.

Great food, nice saloon with bands on the weekends, super natural hot pool and peace and quite. What more do you want?

“Disappointed......”

Not exactly the welcome we were expected. At check-in you are presented with a form to sign and initial your way through. The rules and guidelines are presented. As we turned to go to our room, we had to ask the desk, "Where exactly is our room?" Why couldn't they tell me that? And where is the bar? Where is the dining room? Where is the pool? The stuff you need to know you have to search for.
The restaurant is just average and Expensive! Portions are huge but overall not tasty and delicious.
The rooms are below average. We stayed in the Lower Lodge and the neighboring room's showering sounded like a jet engine taking off in the morning.
Chico Hot Springs should be a gem in Paradise valley but it needs a lot of buffing!
