“Very Pleasantly Surprised!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

My husband and I travel extensively so we have stayed at every kind of accomodations. We were attending a family wedding at a nearby ranch and thus this made the most sense, rather than staying a bit further in Helena. The rooms were very clean, bed was very comfortable, coffee maker, ironing board. refrigerator and flat screen tv. The hotel offers a basic continental breakfast and coffee and tea all day with newspapers and books to read. All this for around $75 per night - how can you beat it? We had entertained staying right in Helena at a B&B for half again as much, we are so glad we did this instead!

BTW, had breakfast down the street at the Hardware Cafe and it was a hoot. Very good coffee - ground on the premises, Huckeleberry stuffed french toast, etc. Have to say - two good finds! Way to go - Montana!!!

“Best kept secret”

We just attended a family reunion in Helena MT. We had heard of the Elkhorn Motel in Montana City. It was near the reunion. The motel was spotlessly clean and the service grand. We could not believe the low prices. I consider this motel as one of Montana's best kept secret. It is a bit off the main exits so the area is serene and quiet.

“Beware of the Entrance Overhead Canopy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2008

My wife and I were traveling from southern Alberta to Yuma, Arizona with our C Class motor home. It was beginning to get late and we decided to stay overnight in the Elkhorn Motor Inn ,Montana City as it had a triple diamond rating in the Montana AAA Tour Book.
We had to pass under an overhead canopy in order to access the hotel car parking area. There was no warning signs displayed to show the height of the canopy and it looked high enough for our RV to clear the canopy. Unknown to us the ramp to the area had a rise and the lighting in the canopy failed to warn us of the of a tanned colored cross beam which our motor home struck destroying our roof air conditioning unit,TV antenna unit and a roof vent cover.
The reception staff were very supportive and later advised us that the low clearance warning sign had been removed as "too many people were hitting it." They then showed us the sign which was kept out of sight in a storage room behind the front desk!!

The hotel corridor and room smelled of ? dampness, ?mold and the hotel was deserted except for one other male guest.. We noticed that all the room doors were open in a supposed attempt to get rid of the damp musty smell.

Our trip was canceled due to the damage sustained to our RV and the following morning we were forced to return home. I have written to the owner of the hotel and have not received any reply regarding the fact that we had to pay $1000.00 insurance deductible towards the cost of the repairs to our RV which amounted to over $2500.00. So please beware of the canopy and the absence of any low clearance warning sign at the entrance to the car park area. Hopefully you will not have the same trouble we had.

I intend to write a letter to our Motoring Association and advise them that they should reconsider their rating for the Elkhorn Mountain Inn.....I know we shall never stay there again!

“New owners, new amenities, still friendly as ever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2008

We live within a couple miles of the Elkhorn Inn. When our youngest son got married (June 2007), we reserved a block of rooms for guests. Most were pleased with the accommodations and room prices. The Inn and adjoining store/gas station were acquired by the owner of the Montana City Grill (excellent) across the road in summer. Every room in the place is being updated and improved. We think its pretty nice and fairly priced. It's the first place in the Helena, MT area we would recommend to friends. The Hardware Cafe just down the road is heavily patronized by the locals, as the many pick-up trucks will attest, and the food is good and hearty. Definitely a local hangout for contractors and working folks.

The MT DOT installed a roundabout at the intersection, which has generated some interesting comments. Either you really like it, or don't. Now that the construction is over, the quiet atmosphere is back and is much appreciated.

“OK”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2007

Recently spent 4 nights here. For the price it was OK. The entire place could use a good refurbishment inside and out. The paint was peeling in my shower and the blinds in my room were broken. The place was very quiet and also very clean so that helped. The continental breakfast is very basic with few choices. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the attached convience store is nice touch.
