My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights as part of our almost-annual Montana vacation. The worst part was the check-in and we almost decided to stay somewhere else. We drove up to the hotel and walked into the reception. The receptionist was just finishing with some other folks ahead of us and we expected to be served next. Instead the receptionist just walked out of the public area to the back office without even greeting us. We waited for a few minutes for her to come back but she didn't. We finally called out for some service and she came back. Unbelievable behaviour to show customers who are trying to check in and give the hotel business. I'm still shaking my head over that one and can't figure it out for the life of me.

Once we got some service everything was fine. We asked to inspect the room in advance and they let us do that no problem. It was a King and fairly spacious, although nothing like the King that they show on their website. A young man working at the hotel offered to help us with our luggage (cooler full of food and lots of shopping purchases). The room had a funny smell and we were concerned that it would bother allergies but it didn't bother us. Outside of the odd smell it was quite clean. We asked about the Havre Underground tours and the receptionist (same one who wouldn't acknowledge us during check in) went on the internet and printed some material for us.

The bed was quite comfie and we slept well on it. The high-speed internet was reliable and fast enough that we could Skype our friends and family, as we often do while on the road. The TV wasn't especially modern but it was fine, except that it couldn't get channel 9 (the local NBC channel), so I couldn't watch the Stanley Cup playoffs when they were on. There were of course no Canadian channels either (although Havre is so close to the border) so it was a bit of a disappointment to miss something that we Canadians value so much.

The brekkie selection was pretty good with fresh fruits, fruit juices, hot waffles, cold hard boiled eggs, hot biscuits, hot drinks and a few cold cereals. There was a staffer dedicated to the brekkie area and she not only kept the place clean and well stocked, she was quite personable gave us lots of interesting local information. While we were eating our first brekkie one of the admin staff came looking for us as we had left a message the night before to take the Tunnels tour. I thought it was nice of them to track us down and pass on a phone message in person. As our main reason for coming to Havre was the Tunnels tour, we appreciated it. If you haven't done the Tunnels tour, it's fascinating and well worth the $10-12 price.

With the exception of the strange check-in, the staff were very hospitable and went out of their way to assist us whenever called upon. We hope to return to Havre one day to do the Buffalo Jump tour and we'd stay at the Town House Inn again.
