“Clean hotel, bad customer service.”

Our room was very clean and spacious and the rate was reasonable for the area. They have some nice picnic tables outside and we sat outside later in the evening, ate some snacks, and played a few table games. It was very peaceful. I used the laundry facility and it was also very clean. The breakfast was basic and good...bagels, muffins, cream cheese, juice, coffee, etc. The pool was supposed to be open but the lights were off and I couldn't find the switch. The night supervisor doesn't stay at the front desk and I didn't want to bother them ( I suppose I should have, since I paid for the room.) A few of the staff members in the morning weren't exactly pleasant. When I smile at someone, I don't expect a dirty look in return.

After we left, I noticed they charged our credit card more than what our rate was supposed to be. I called the front desk and he told me to call the next day because he couldn't find where anything extra was supposed to be charged. I call the next day to speak to a manager and she was very short with me. She said they had to wash the sheets (that's supposed to be standard) and comforters because we smoked in the room and gave me a whole line about how there's a law in Montana about smoking in hotel rooms. That's really nice and dandy, but I don't smoke and my husband smoked outside that evening before we went inside. We were together the whole time and I can attest that there was no smoking in the room. He doesn't even smoke in our own home. I can help but wonder if maybe they saw him smoking outside or something and automatically assumed he smoked in the room? I have no idea. They did credit back the additional charges after I said I would call my bank and dispute it.

We travel a lot and generally rent non smoking hotel rooms and we've NEVER been accused of smoking in a room. I have no problem paying extra for things when it's due, but this was over the top for me.

I'll probably steer clear of this place just because I like to stay at places where the people actually treat their paying customers as guests.

“Quiet, comfortable, charming!”

This lodge is set back from the road and offers quiet, spacious rooms with a rustic, western theme. The young man at the front desk took time to show me the lodge wood furniture he'd built and explain the technique for finishing, then offered some ideas for attractions when we got back to Bozeman. He also suggested a great place for dinner (the Lighthouse) and gave us some complimentary coupons for the dessert. His friendliness and the cozy decor made a great impression despite some booking issues I'd had on this and a previously postponed reservation. I thought the online rates were a bit steep (especially after some great stays in Cody and Bozeman for much less $) but booked anyway since lodging prices near the park entrances are all pretty high. As it turned out, this young man adjusted our rate to a more palatable amount which left us with a much more favorable impression. [I want to clarify here that I am not aggressive or ill humored towards those providing services. I shared my unfavorable booking experience in a pleasant way and was graciously given a concession...no demanding, no bullying.] All said, this lodge is well priced amonst the competition in Gardiner. The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of countertop space in the bath. One thing for those seniors who prefer the top floor--there is no elevator, stairs only.

We stayed here after a night at the Travelodge. It was a much better choice and I would recommend it to anyone. The service was fantastic from the owners and Maria. The breakfast was great. The room was adaquate, nothing fancy but just what we needed. Overall a great stay.

“Great stay in 2 bedroom - perfect lodging near north entrance to Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

We really enjoyed our night at the Yellowstone Village Inn. The unit was very clean and had comfortable beds. There was one bed in the living room and a separate bedroom. The bathroom was also split in two. One room with the toliet and sink, another with the bathtub. The continental breakfast was perfect - bagels, muffins, fruit. I would definitely stay here again.

“Bad memories”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

The YVI was the worst night on our trip.
The family room we had was supposed to be a 2 -bedroom room. We paid for that too.
It appeared to have 1 proper bedroom without an airco( it was very hot) and the other bedroom was in the livingroom, so not a bedroom at all.
Above this bed was a fan, but you could only have it on with the lights on. So we went to the front office and complained about this, and the fact that there was no airco in the bedroom.
The same unfriendly, rude young man who did the check in started an angry story about us booking online instead of phoning and that it wasn't the most expensive room in the hotel, and asked us if we wanted to move, but he was fully booked?????
Still don't understand what he was trying to say.
He came to our room and started to take the hot bulbs out with his bare hands. I warned him, he proceeded, burnt his hand and dropped the bulb, glass everywhere.
In short he ruined our evening and out stay. We did not feel welcome at all.
The room itself was rather uninviting.
To say something positive, the breakfast was quite good and Wanda who was at the reception the next day was really sorry of what had happened and offered us a refund.
We did appreciate it, but our night had been ruined.
