Very pleased with the modest hotel room we had for 5 nights. If you do not want to camp, but are going to be outdoors wandering Glacier's many hiking paths during the day, Rising Sun is your best option. Very centrally located by St. Mary Lake, with a decent restaurant, it offers the best price for a motel room within Glacier NP. You do not have the shopping and activities that McDonald on the west side has, nor do you have the view of Many Glacier, but you can't beat Rising Sun for providing a good, clean, comfortable room for hikers or photographers less interested in camping. We were able to get up just before sunrise and be set up at the prime photo spot for Wild Goose Island in about 5 minutes' drive. We were within a half hour of Many Glacier, within an hour of Two Medicine, and under a half hour to Logan Pass. Be advised, there is no TV, and a/c is by a box fan left in the room, but propping up a laptop on a chair we were able to watch downloaded episodes of some of our favorite series comfortably from the beds. Very quiet too, in the middle of the busiest time in the park.
