After two terrible nights in the Motor Lodge at Lake MacDonald, we got the helpful desk clerk to help us switch our last night to the only vacancy in Rising Sun. What a stroke of luck. We drove from a whitewater trip in West Glacier to Rising Sun, cutting a lot off our trip for the next day, back to Banff. We expected and needed little more than a bed for the 11 hours we were there, but it was better than expected. Room 11 has a panoramic view of the mountains - at least it did until the rain clouds lowered, but that is Mother Nature's fault. The room was clean and comfortable, and the front desk clerk was helpful, pleasant and efficient. We really don't ask for more as a rule.
We had not previously considered Rising Sun for lodging, but it is ideally situated for touring the east end of Glacier, St. Mary, Browning, and even Many Glacier. I think The Canadian border took us less than an hour (Hard to say for sure since we stopped at Swiftcurrent to watch early morning bears and to catch breakfast.
Room Tip: Book early! We got lucky. Don't count on luck!
