“Nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

The lodge is beautiful and the rooms are adequate. The bathrooms are very very small and cramped and you could hear a lot of outside noise while in the room. Since we didn't spend a lot of time inside the room, this wasn't a big deal. The lodge itself is beautiful. The lobby was a nice place to hang out after dinner.

Thanks for taking your time to interact with us on TripAdvisor. The bathrooms are small as they were added to each room for guest comfort not that long ago. Communal bathrooms were how the Lodge was originally built. Yes, the walls are not the thickest. Thanks for having a good mindset and realizing that it is not about a stay in the most modern facility, but about getting to step back in time and relax. We look forward to your next visit!

“Good on 'ya Mates”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We last visited Glacier in June of 2008. Time flies. Stayed at the Glacier Park Lodge. Didn't get to drive the Going to The Sun Road. Closed. Drove it in 1997. Everyone should drive it. Not to be missed. The Glacier Park Lodge was most delightful. We took the Red Bus tour to Waterton and had high tea there. Not so wonderful. Had better at the Grand Floridian in Disneyworld, but the location was most pleasant. The Glacier Park Lodge was excellant and Xantera does an excellant job as the concessioner for the NPS. Good on 'ya mates and do it if you have the chance.

Glacier is a BIG park and no matter where you stay, you will have to drive to see it all! Not a BAD thing. Great views all.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the back side of the lodge. Great views of the mountains.

We appreciate your review. I would like to mention one tiny little detail, though. In and around Glacier National Park, (and Waterton) the Historic Lodges are owned/operated by Glacier Park, Inc. and not Xantera. We look forward to your next visit. Next time, you should not wait so long in-between visits. If you want to drive the Going-to-the-Sun-Road, I have seen it closed until the middle of July, before it was completely plowed. Just a little tip as you plan your next visit.

“Bathroom in a closet”

The lodge is beautiful. The rooms are what you would expect in a national park lodge. I have 2 complaints.
Lighting in the room is very dim. I realize it is for the good of the enviornment, however, as an older person it made it hard to read.
The bathroom was ridiculously small. I had to stand sideways to brush my teeth. The shower was so small I and to keep turning to soap then rinse myself. Shampooing was a trick. I realize these bathrooms used to be closets but this one was terrible. I could see other bathrooms in the same wing that were larger.

Some of those bathrooms are quite small as they were added to each room for guest comfort not that long ago. Communal bathrooms were how the Lodge was originally built. For the most part, our guests are willing to put up with that inconvenience as a part of the historic experience. However, sometimes it can be a bit much, especially if you have a bad back or the like. As a little insider tip, not all the bathrooms were created equal, which you noticed. In the future, you can request (not a guarantee) a second floor room. Those typically have a larger bathroom. Although, most of them have a balcony also, so they are going to run a little bit more. I hope that helps.

“Beautiful architecture-good experience”

I was not expecting much - I knew the lodge was old and there were no amenities. The lobby was impressive as well as the views. The room was large but you could hear the guests above you walking around - the bathrooms were teeny tiny. We did not eat in the formal dining room however the food in the bar was not great. If you are there to hike, it is quite a drive to the park entrance. Would I stay there again? Probably not. Am I glad I had the experience? Yes.

Thanks for interacting with us on TripAdvisor. I’m very sorry that your stay with us was not as accommodating as you expected. Please keep in mind that the historic lodges in and around Glacier were built at the beginning of the last century by the Great Northern Railroad and were completely modern for the times. A stay in them today, is “turning back the clock” to a different era. I would like to point out that the rooms are kept very clean and in order by our staff. They are small now, but at the time that they were built, they were not considered to be so. We do our best to present the feel of our facilities on our website and brochures, with lots of pictures and accurate descriptions. Please know that your comment has been passed on to our company president. As far as Hiking, the Two Medicine Trailhead is within 20 miles and is the gateway to some of the best hiking in the Park.

“Glacier Park Lodge-a good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Do your homework prior to booking a stay: it it an old, historical building, the walls are thin, there is no elevator! it is clean, has a friendly atmosphere, the dining room is very very good(high quality meats, veggies with great service)
There have been a few negative comments about the noise level, the cleanliness, etc.--but I think knowing what to expect and the reason is half the battle. We enjoyed our time spent there and all around found it comfortable. Bottom line: would go back

Room Tip: Research prior to reserving.

Thank you so much for your interaction. Comments like yours are nice to have around when there are so many folks that seem to not grasp the concept of what to expect. This building is 99 years old and carries a legacy with it. There are some difficult decisions when it comes to replacing vs. repairing anything to do with these hotels. Each time something is replaced, it is a loss. Again, thank you for pointing this out.
