“All is good, but avoid the Exxon in Cooke City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2009

Weather changed our plans for camping in Yellowstone. We travel by a pair of Harley-Davidson's, pull in to a campsite, set up cam and enjoy the region. But rain, storms, bitterly cold weather prompted us to try a night in a bed in Cooke City. We were not dissappointed. The only available motel room in town was at the Hoosier. A bit pricy ($100) but worth it.
The room gave us a chance to spend time in a town we would have otherwise just ridden through on the way to Yellowstone. Since we hung out for 24 hours in the little touristy-town, we got to know a couple of the locals, Cori and Nick. They are fun young people.
The Miner is good for local music. The Beartooth Restaurant has great food.
The only downside, the Exxon gas station. A lens on one of our taillights had broken, and we needed just a 4 inch piece of tape to hold it in place. I asked the blonde young lady behind the counter for a piece of tape having just purchased the bulb from her for that same tailight. She refused. She said there was nothing she could do about it. I said, "Sure there is. It's called hospitality." She said, "No. There's nothing I can do."
So, over a 4 inch piece of tape, Exxon lost my business and became the single flaw in an otherwise pleasant experience.

“STAY AND DRINK SOMEWHERE ELSE UNLESS YOU LIKE RUDENESS”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2009

My spouse and I were born and raised in Montana and have lived here for 35+ years. We traveled with a large group of co-workers and friends. We had decided to try this establishement for drinks after a day of riding our ATVs. There were 3 of us women who walked in the door with the rest of the party in tow. The bartender started yelling at us that we could use the porta pottys across the street instead of his restroom. When confronted by a member of our party that we were going to be paying customers he did not care. Was worried there were so many people who were in tow to the restroom. When confronted he changed his story. He then had the nerve to tell our friend that what does he expect from a bunch of people from Denver. When my friend replied he was not from Denver but lived in Montana his demeanor changed again. If you have been to this establishement and treated this way I am sorry as not all Montanans are this rude or unfriendly. My husband and I were the youngest in our party and the rest of the members were 50+ and we are not bikers but your average joe. Location was good on main street, Parking was good, units appeared to be comparable to other hotels in town. Service was awful

“Try a different motel...”

This motel looked very neat and clean from the highway, and the room was also neat and clean. However, everything was older but well kept up. No in-room appliances, only 3 TV channels, $77 with tax. Good mountain view from the grassy area out front, and Hoosier's Bar was the best in town, once it opened.
Cooke City is rustic/funky, and we enjoyed the town, much better than West Yellowstone.
