My wife and I were traveling toward Denver via Des Moines after visiting St. Louis. This was one of ten or so motels and hotels we slept in over the past three weeks. And it was our favorite in many ways and clearly the best value.

Everyone in the hotel was friendly. Breakfast was good, a little better than standard. The room was big and comfy. Everything was set up for a good night's sleep in the middle of a long road trip.

We didn't swim in the pool, but liked that it was there.

We were very happy to have this motel located in Troy because we did not want to stay any closer to St. Louis. The motel was comfortable, clean, and had very nice facilities. We sat in the lobby for a time when we arrived in the evening and enjoyed a cup of coffee and cookies.

We had 13 people staying in 5 rooms for a family reunion nearby. Hotel was great for the group. Even thought they were full up for the July 4th holiday, the staff did everything they could to accommodate us such as changing a room from smoking to non-smoking. Friday night they let us use the breakfast room to get together, eat pizza and talk for hours. Even though it was filled up, it was not noisy. Breakfast does have a lot of carbs but the do have hard boiled eggs, sausage gravy and some frozen ham omelets (not very good but an option if you are not into carbs) as well as fresh fruit and yogurt. Inside pool and hot tub were nice and clean. Room was nice and bed comfortable. Loved the moose head on the wall in the lobby...obviously decorated in early woodlands decor. Good value.

Only negative, watch out for the $1.00 automatic charge for the safe on your bill. I didn't notice until I got home, called and the front desk took it off my bill.

We were in the area for one week and stayed in a couple of rooms. If you want truly non-smoking room ask for the 2nd floor. 3 floor is mixed smoking and non-smoking rooms and the smoke gets into the non-smoking rooms. The breakfast was carb heaven (waffles, bagels, donuts, french toast, cereal etc.) and included fresh fruit, juice and great coffee. The staff was very helpful and friendly in all situations. There are Taco Bell and Hardee's fast food just out the front door and across the parking lot.
