“very comfy and friendly!”

i thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay here! the staff was very accommodating and friendly, the breakfast was delicious, and the room was very cozy and comfortable. all for a very reasonable price. i think the inn is starting to show a bit of wear and tear, and could use a bit of love (paint, carpets, new pillows on the bed, etc) - but that didn't really affect the comfort factor at all.

all in all a great stay and i would definitely stay here again!

“AMAZING!!!”

This B&B was amazing. I have done a bit of travelling recently, and this is by far the best place I have stayed at. My room was extraordinarily clean, well maintained and spacious, pure luxury as far as I'm concerned. Everything about the house was really cute and quaint. The breakfast was indulgent, very delicious, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. And, importantly (from a student's point of view), it was all very affordable! If I'm ever in Springfield again, I will definitely be staying here!

“Perfect period B&B”

Another lovely B&B we used this Septmeber whilst traversing the US. A real quaint abode with period fittings & well themed rooms, very clean & good food plus our hosts were extremely helpful with local detail etc. Free parking on site & the lovely university town on Springfield is within 10 minutes walking distance with some really nice friendly bars & restaurants. Recommended although the baths in each room may not be to every ones taste, check out the photos on their web site.

A must stay if you're in town

Room Tip: The upstairs seemed a little querky but well themed, I had no problem with it but you may need to ch...

“Loved the privacy of the Wilder Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

I haven't seen all the rooms of the Walnut Street Inn, but if I go back I will ask for the Wilder Room again. It is the least expensive of all the rooms, and one of the most private as well. It is one of only two rooms on the third floor, and it has the distinct advantage of a tiny private porch (which looks right into the treetops!) plus a spiral staircase on the exterior of the building. So, to get to the Wilder Room you can either walk through the house or you can go up the spiral staircase. The staircase and back porches are visible in some of the photos that travelers have posted to this site.

Other things I liked about the Wilder Room: it has an antique tub and small sink directly in the room. The Wilder Room's cozy private toilet is in a closet-like space behind a door that is smaller than the typical door. The Wilder Room is really quite spacious and the tub is probably 20 feet from the bed on the opposite side of the room. There is a ceiling fan if you like a breeze at night. It is decorated in a simple way. The only downside to the room, I suppose, is that the mattress is old. It was comfortable enough for us but it has been around a while. Maybe that should get on a checklist of things to update :)

Overall I must say this room was so sweet I remarked to my traveling companion that I would like to be able to live there all the time. I guess it resembles what would have been my dream bedroom when I was a little girl, or the kind of studio apartment I wished I could have found when I was in college.

Speaking of college, MSU is within easy walking distance, so if you stay here you can just leave your car out back and walk to where you need to go.

“Great location, hospitality, and Bed and Breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

The Walnut Street Inn is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are very comfortable and breakfasts are fantastic. Gary and his staff make it a home away from home. You couldn't find a more ideal location to do most anything in Springfield. You are walking distance to Missouri State with all their sports and concerts and Juanita Hammonds Hall for all the performing arts. You can walk to a Springfield Cardinals game and it's just a short drive to Bass Pro. Thank you Gary for a wonderful stay!
