I haven't seen all the rooms of the Walnut Street Inn, but if I go back I will ask for the Wilder Room again. It is the least expensive of all the rooms, and one of the most private as well. It is one of only two rooms on the third floor, and it has the distinct advantage of a tiny private porch (which looks right into the treetops!) plus a spiral staircase on the exterior of the building. So, to get to the Wilder Room you can either walk through the house or you can go up the spiral staircase. The staircase and back porches are visible in some of the photos that travelers have posted to this site.
Other things I liked about the Wilder Room: it has an antique tub and small sink directly in the room. The Wilder Room's cozy private toilet is in a closet-like space behind a door that is smaller than the typical door. The Wilder Room is really quite spacious and the tub is probably 20 feet from the bed on the opposite side of the room. There is a ceiling fan if you like a breeze at night. It is decorated in a simple way. The only downside to the room, I suppose, is that the mattress is old. It was comfortable enough for us but it has been around a while. Maybe that should get on a checklist of things to update :)
Overall I must say this room was so sweet I remarked to my traveling companion that I would like to be able to live there all the time. I guess it resembles what would have been my dream bedroom when I was a little girl, or the kind of studio apartment I wished I could have found when I was in college.
Speaking of college, MSU is within easy walking distance, so if you stay here you can just leave your car out back and walk to where you need to go.
