“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

I actually stayed at this hotel twice on two different occasions back in 2006 and 2007. I remember it being a really nice stay so I wanted to write a review now that I am a tripadvsior member.

The purpose of my trips were business, so I stayed on weeknights. I asked for a quiet room both times and was given one down the hall away from other travelers. One of the female staff members was very nice and helpful in this regard. I remember the rooms being very clean (I think it was a new hotel), and the breakfast being adequate and what you'd expect for a continental breakfast. The workout room had two or three cardio machines, and I didn't use the pool. I'd stay here again for sure.

“Would not stay again”

To begin with, I've stayed in many hotels throughout my life, and this was one of my least favorites. Right as we walked in, we checked in. We're a priority club member, so we're supposed to get a special greeting that we didn't receive. We then checked out the breakfast area, which was very small, it only had 7 small tables, which ultimately did not seat everybody that was staying in the hotel. We then went up to our room, which was a nice, large room, and tried to turn on the lamp. It turned on and of like a strobe light. There was a short in the lamp. After that, we decided to go down to the pool and swim. We were informed that it "had bugs" and couldn't swim in it. Then later the toilet began acting up and nearly overflowed, so we had to get a plunger and fix it. The next day we woke up to a small breakfast that was hurried in right at the time it was supposed to close, although we were still hungry. Later that night, we went downstairs to get the free cookies that are advertized from 4-7. We got down there at 5 o'clock, and the man informed us that they only make 2 trays, and when those are gone, their gone. The hotel was completely booked up, and they didn't even take that into consideration when making the cookies. I would not recommend this hotel.

“Clean and efficient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2010

We stayed one night at the HI Express while on the way to Tennessee. We checked in late and left early so we really didn't spend much time at the hotel. The desk clerk was friendly, and our room was clean and efficient. Breakfast the next morning was the same as I have experienced at every other HI Express - the eggs and sausage were actually quite tasty!

I would probably stay here again should I be in the area and needed somewhere.

“Just an okay stay”

The bathtub was really dingy. I trust it's been cleaned, but it's just a cheap tub and turns grey after repeated guests. The carpet felt a little damp as well. I tried to turn on the heat to kind of dry up the room, and it let out a horrible burning smell. The bed was so-so in terms of support. Not horrible, but I wouldn't call it wonderful either.

On a positive note, I did notice that the rooms were pretty well insulated and it was not a noisy hotel. The continental breakfast in the morning has your typical fare, and it is well organized and there are hot items available.

Overall, it's a quiet stay if you just need a place to sleep for the night. There's a new Drury Inn & Suites getting built nearby, I would probably recommend that once it's done over this hotel.

“Probably would not stay there again”

The room itself was ok as far as rooms go. It could have been a little cleaner in the bathroom. But, what made me angry is that the maid(s) went through my luggage. One of them was locked but the other was my carry-on and didn't have a lock. I know it was gone through because I had purchased a stuffed animal as a gift for a friend and it was stuck in the zipper when I arrived back at my room. It didn't look like anything was stolen, but I guess I will have to wait for the rest of my credit card bills to come in. I had brought some of my mail along to pay some bills so I had checks as well as credit card bills in that bag.

Also, I was quoted one price over the phone ($90) per room, per night. (I needed 2 rooms - 1 for 2 nights, 1 for 1 night). When I got my credit card bill in the mail I was charged $250 for one room and $130 for another.

I only made my reservations at that hotel out of necessity because it was a holiday and the hotel I normally stay at was booked up. The Best Western Coach House Inn just across the way is much nicer and much less expensive.

  • Liked — Close to where I needed to be
  • Disliked — price, especially considering it was nothing special; and the maids went through my luggage
