“Friendly helpful staff and clean but definetly showing its age and loud if you face the freeway.”
First the pros:
The staff here are delightfully friendly and helpful. They are nice, good folks. They also keep the property nice and clean.
But now the con -- and it's a big one. The property is really showing its age. The carpeting is ratty. It has tears and cigarette burns and the nails in the tacking strips at the edge to the bathroom were poking right through the rug so that it hurt your feet. The furniture was arranged in odd ways in our suite -- you'd hit yourself on the chair and on the armoire containing the mini-fridge and safe on your way from the bedroom to the bathroom. So we pushed those two pieces of furniture back some 6 inches so that they were a bit more out of the walkway. And we found out why they'd moved the furniture there -- the carpet underneath was torn. So, when they found torn carpet, instead of replacing the torn rug squares, they moved furniture around to cover the tears so that it would come in your way when walking. Not a good move and not a good sign as to the mindset of the owner and/or manager.
The first room we got, a non-smoking suite, also smelled like someone had smoked in it. There were cigarette burns on the carpet, which seemed to confirm this. I can't say for sure that someone had smoked in it, but for sure that room desperately needed to be aired out. It was so closed in and musty that it gave us a little respiratory distress.
Worst, it turns out that all their suites face the freeway. It's like camping out in a freeway median overnight -- very loud traffic roaring through. We had a small window from 3 am to 5:30 am when it was actually quiet enough to sleep.
The staff were very apologetic and friendly and helpful about all this though. They moved us to a smaller 'mini-suite' the next day that is on the back side of the building. This new room was much quieter and it did not suffer from the smoky/musty air of the first room.
However, it did have the same issues with age -- the furniture was all banged up, the beds are creaky and not very comfortable, the rugs were torn and tacking strip nails poking through.
A hotel staffer mentioned that they are doing a full remodel in Feb. 2012.
That would be overdue.
But when done, maybe the physical plant of this property will come close to matching the customer service offered by its staff. In the meanwhile, while the staff are very nice, I'd thinkt that you could do much better staying somewhere less dated.
Room Tip: Even numbered rooms at the back of the hotel face the mall and are much quieter than the odd numbere...
