“Good Location, Tired Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We live in St Louis, but booked family in this hotel. We were quite embarrassed of it, though, upon arrival. One room was a "suite", which apparently, at this hotel, suite = adding a couch. There was nothing "suite" about it. The hallways were dumpy and the rooms look as though they haven't been updated in 20 years. However, the rooms seemed to be clean. If you are traveling with children who love to use a hotel pool, book elsewhere as the pool is very tiny. The free food and drinks were good, but the eating area was dirty.

The location is good, and you can walk to most things. There is free parking, which is a huge plus; I don't believe any other hotels downtown offer such a thing. AND, the free food and drink make it easy to come back from a game or sightseeing and relax and snack.

We have stayed at another Drury Inn - the one near Forest Park. This one is so much better--updated, clean, (even the free food was much better here). If you have an option, I'd book the Forest Park one. However, the FP Drury is more expensive, but it's obvious why. (If you're traveling with kids, the pool at the FP is much more fun; plus it's an indoor/outdoor heated pool.

I would stay here if you're not going to be in your room much. If you're just using it as a base and are spending most of the time away doing things downtown, then it's probably okay. Otherwise, if you're doing the zoo or any of the Forest Park museums, I'd book the at the other Drury.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, I'd suggest not picking one near the courtyard/eating area.

Drury Hotels, General Manager at Drury Inn & Suites St. Louis Convention Center, responded to this review

Guest feedback is so valuable to our continuous improvement and we appreciate your comments, as well as, your business.

This hotel, listed on the historic registry, was once the famous St. Louis Union Market rescued, restored and converted into a hotel by the Drury Family. As a conversion, the hotel holds a certain quirkiness that most find endearing and to a few, not so much. Our rooms were required to be designed to fit the structure rather than the structure fitting the rooms.

Our pool, located on the fifth floor, is actually one feature many families enjoy most. The convenience of sitting poolside just outside their room without the necessity to travel to another part of the hotel is the main selling point for many of our guests.

Drury Hotels are renovated on a regular basis, generally every 5-7 years. The Drury Family will be conducting another renovation at this property later this year.

Sincerely,

Thomas Logan

“Great value, location, staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

One of the main reasons for staying at this Drury location was free parking and location. And of course the other famous Drury extras like free breakfast and evening drinks and food and wi fi. Parking was in a parking garage accessed with your room card. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Bathrooms large, well lit and shower/bath liquids mounted on shower wall. The breakfast and evening food/drink was centrally located and plenty available. The staff, which included phone contacts, was very pleasant and friendly. Each one made eye contact and greeted us with a smile and greeting. They all seemed sincere in trying to make our stay as comfortable and nice as possible.

“Good value”

Hotel is a 5 block walk from the arch. The staff was super helpful and friendly. The pool is smaller than it looks in pictures. It's about a 3 person pool. We didn't care tho. The free food was a nice amenity. The room was a bit small for 5 people, but the price was right. The beds were way too soft and we all had back aches. They need to be replaced. The temperature control in the room was extremely hard to control comfortably. I wouldn't probably stay at this place again, but for $88 that night it was ok. The free parking was helpful and appreciated.

“Quirky, but fine”

As the other reviews can attest, this place is in a great location that is convenient to many things downtown. Most of the rooms are on the 5th & 6th floor of the building - most of the other four floors contain a parking garage. Half of the rooms on the 5th floor are entirely internal. Their "window" side opens out to the central court which houses the small pool/spa, bar/dining area, and myriad seating areas with video game consoles.

My room was OK. The dated carpet & upholstery concerned me, from a sanitary standpoint, so I didn't sit on anything but the bed and never went barefoot.

The pluses of this hotel are the complimentary food/drinks, and wifi. All of the staff members I encountered were friendly. There was a small workout room, and a laundry with self-serve washers/dryers.

I stayed here for a convention. Easy to get to the America Center and can walk to Busch stadium. Perfect for families with breakfast and even kid like dinner ( hot dogs nachos) the room was ok nothing fancy but house keeping did a nice job. Staff was friendly. Lots extras such as free wi fi, drinks, phone etc.
