the holiday inn select convention center in my opinion, and for what I like, one of two hotels that are the best places to stay for a downtown event. It's a block off washington ave (the most popular restaurant/bar strip in the city) and right behind the convention center where the football stadium is. Being a block off washington makes it a little less apealing to the eye, but also makes it much cheaper than the many hotels on washington. The hotel is just fine. Nothing fancy, but clean, has a bar, a nice lobby, decent rooms, etc. What makes it so great is the location and the price. My wife and I have stayed here several times for events like football games and wedding receptions downtown when driving home to the county was not really possible. I definiely recommend.

I like to leave good reviews....this hotel is great, and I really love coming here when I am in St Louis. The rooms are somewhat dated but once I find something I like and a place I feel at home--I am going to stay there! Really enjoy this hotel and hope to be in St Louis in the next month or so to see my favorite staff!

The staff was very good. The room was a bit dated/worn....but much better than many other reviews said. The only thing was all of the rooms with King beds were on the interior...if you had the drapes open you felt like you were in a fish bowl....The pool deck and other rooms could look right into yours. The outside rooms were all double beds, but you could open the drapes and get some natural light. The location is great for the convetion center and the football stadium. Several good restaurants within short walking distance

The Holiday Inn Select Downtown (next to the convention center) was ok. I stayed 3 nights at this hotel during a large organizaiton that booked a block of rooms for the duration of the conference. This was also during the World Series (of which STL was in) so they hotel had to expect to be busy. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. The 2 issues I had were: 1) no free breakfast. Most Holiday Inn's I have stayed at, have a free breakfast that is pretty darn good (as hotel breakfasts go). This one was $11 per day (plus tip) for their breakfast buffet, which was okay (scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, grits, pastries, and cereal). The restaurant where breakfast was served was also greatly under staffed. There were probably around 30 tables and only 2 or 3 people serving and bussing the tables. I don't blame the wait staff for the slow service, I blame the hotel that does not staff it well. 2) the woman at the front desk when I checked in was beyond rude. I understand long days and being tired, but being short and ill tempered with a guest who called down for extra towels he had called about 30 minutes before (the fact I know all this should tell you about the woman) leaves a not very good impression.
I will say, overall it was a clean hotel, comfortable and the other employees were very friendly. It is close to everything downtown, which was convenient and why I booked the hotel in the first place.
Would I stay here again, possibly. I would definitely do more comparison shopping to see if there is a comparable price at another hotel.
