We have experienced the luxury of the Fleur-De-Lys mansion three times now, and we already want to book our next visit. We live in the St. Louis area, and our visits to the mansion are our way of having a relaxing and romantic evening together, removing ourselves from the daily stresses of life, and the hectic schedule a family brings. The entire mansion is warm and inviting in a way that makes you just want to kick back and soak it all up.
The warm smiles and the warm cookies at check-in immediately put us on the path of relaxation. After our hello's and check-in, we almost always find ourselves enjoying a coffee in the opulant library. You will find yourself right at home as you literally kick up your feet and dive into a book or a magazine, accompanied by one of Jan’s fresh baked cookies, of course!
The hot tub in the solarium is the next place into which we normally wander. The warmth of the hot tub contrasts with the coolness of the night air, and with the windows open, you feel the stress of life soak away. The lock on the door ensures the experience will be private and romantic.
We have stayed in two of the four guest rooms, and the Forrest Park room is our favorite. The rooms are incredibly clean which is a huge compliment coming from us “clean freaks.” The large King bed is wonderful. The comfortable mattress and the lavender scented sheets are perfect ways to end the day.
Breakfast has always been simply amazing! Calling the meals gourmet does them no justice. Jan and Vickie never cease to amaze us with their breakfasts that fit for royalty, from the presentation, the china and silver, to the decadent flavors. With Dave on coffee duty, you are sure to have a great start to your day. While we didn’t indulge in a private dining experience at the mansion on this visit, we did experience it on our first visit. Dawn, the dinner Executive Chef, prepared one of the most amazing meals that we have ever eaten, and we have eaten all over the world, in world renown dining establishments, and experiences. We highly recommend the experience, but come hungry and eat lightly during the first courses!
We saved the best part of the mansion for last, the Innkeppers. From the moment we met them, Jan and Dave have treated us like family. They make you feel like a family guest, and not a paying customer. They strive to know you and to know what will make a good experience for you. Sometimes that is enjoying the quiet atmosphere of the mansion, and sometimes that is enjoying a conversation with them in the kitchen as family while dirty breakfast dishes, but wonderful conversation and good company, surround you. Truly what a family breakfast experience is all about! On our last two visits, we also have had the pleasure of getting to know their Assistant Innkeeper, Vickie. She is every bit as personable as Jan and Dave, and she adds her own style of hospitality to the experience.
From the moment we discovered the Fleur-De-Lys, we have never looked at another B&B. We found a gem in our own backyard, and we will be visiting for years to come!
