Absolutely gorgeous historic bed and breakfast-- beautiful decor and furnishings in the common rooms and the bedrooms. We used it as a hotel, but this would be a beautiful place to have an event. The breakfast was to die for, and included local ingredients such as honey and eggs-- the french toast was amazing!! You might want to request it, because the menu changes every day. The owner, Olin, is extremely friendly and helpful if you are unfamiliar with the area. A great place that is far better than any hotel in town! Stay here!!

This fabulous old home has been carefully restored by the owner. None of its charm has been lost by addition of modern comforts. The host is extremely knowledgeable about St Joseph. He can advise you on where to eat, what to do etc. Breakfast is freshly made and always delicious.

I enjoyed siting on the large porch, reading a book whilst the owner's cats kept me company.

My husband and I planned a trip to Atchison to go on the haunted homes tour and decided to extend our weekend with a trip to St. Joe. When searching for a unique place to stay, I came across the Whiskey Mansion website. My husband and I thought it would be very cool to stay in an actual mansion after visiting the fine homes of Atchison. I contacted Olin and was able to book "Tiffanies Room" which included a clawfoot jacuzzi tub. After driving most of the day site seeing in Atchison and Weston, the jacuzzi tub was a most welcome site. We grabbed some take out and retired to the beautiful mansion for the evening. The first question my hubby asked Olin "Is the mansion haunted?" Olin informed us that no ghost had made their presence known! After walking around the huge house and seeing pictures of the family who lived there during the early 1900's, the feeling was not fear, but comfort. It was sooo cool to be in some of the same rooms that had been part of the original family gatherings. It was a treat to stay in a real mansion that is restored to its 1885 splendor. The breakfast the next morning was a wonderful surprise. The omelet with goat cheese was heavenly, and the homemade bread was a nice touch. Everything was delicious and aplenty. It was a nice romantic getaway for parents raising a special needs child. We plan to return soon!

Just stayed here over the weekend and had a great time. St Joseph is an American Victorian architectural treasure and I stayed here without a car and walked the neighborhood instead which contains many wonderful Victorian buildings. While some still need some "love" a great many have been completely redone and are gorgeous.

The Whiskey Mansion was home to a prominent early family and is being very carefully restored. The American walnut staircase has been carefully reproduced. The front parlor has fabulous Bradbury and Bradbury wallpaper. Public rooms are large with wood floors, gleaming light fixtures and very high ceilings. The innkeeper is restoring the Encaustic tile in the entrance hall which is wonderful. The rooms are on the second floor and are comfortable and very clean. All sport new vintage inspired bathrooms with nice amenities and lots of hot water.

Breakfast here was amazing and different each day. French toast, omlettes, and quiche served with lovely fruit and great coffee. The innkeeper was a wealth of knowledge on the area and truly made me feel welcome and cared for thoughout my stay.

I am also an innkeeper (25 years) in Seattle and usually don't stay at bed and breakfasts but had walked by this house on a previous trip and just had to try it. I am really glad I did and can't wait to come back!
