“Breakfast was good, room and bathroom filthy. Would not stay again.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

I don't know if I can convey the experience in words. I will say the food was good.

But the innkeeper was really into oversharing. We checked in about 5 and by the time we left at 7 we knew far too much about her, her experiences, her family, and other guests.

It went on like this every time we were around. I think she is probably really nice, but maybe lonely, but we were just so uncomfortable. Maybe I am just not a B&B person and need more distance from my innkeeper.

So, all of that could be dealt with but the room and bathroom were filthy. I mean random hairs on the shower walls, eyelashes and dust on the bathroom counter. The dust on the bedside tables was thick, and I don't mean a week's worth. That dust was seriously thick.

Her breakfasts were really delicious, and the house beautifully decorated. I am guessing that she concentrates on the things she likes to do, and cleaning wasn't one of them.

I think I am done staying at bed and breakfasts.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms share a bathroom. Be aware.

“Good and bad points”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

The innkeeper was quite nice and the breakfast she fed me was delicious (if three times more than I needed, considering I was the only one there).

I came in around 6 pm, so she turned down my bed as she showed me the room. However, she threw all the pillows onto the bench, which was the one surface where I could have placed my suitcase. I was forced to leave it on the floor on the far side of the bed. Unfortunately, the room was so full of furniture and decorations that I had trouble getting to that part of the room. I had to close the bathroom door and almost go sideways around the bed to reach it. She needs to clean some of the excess stuff out of the room to make it more usable.

I understand that she wants to be a "green" B&B, but the towels were literally like cardboard. I would have preferred them to be fluffy.

Be sure to check the price of the room she gives you. I didn't realize she was giving me the most expensive room. Also, the tax was a lot more than I would assumed, which made the total cost quite expensive overall.

“Awkward Inn Keeper Makes Stay "Bittersweet".”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

The food is great, and thats were the good part ends. The rooms were average. The inn keeper made the stay unpleasant. It almost felt like we were staying free at someone's home, instead of staying at a relatively expensive b&b. We do not recommend.

“NEVER again .. Rude Innkeeper, hot rooms and ants in the bed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

In all the years of staying in B&B's I have NEVER had an Innkeeper strip the linens from my bed while I was still in the room getting ready for the day!

Nor have I ever encountered an Innkeeper who reused plastic water bottles. "Green" ? No - just cheap. The tacky unsealed reloaded water bottles provided for guests certainly must be in violation of HEALTH CODES.

Be warned - Rooms are kept UNCOMFORTABLY WARM.. just ever so slightly air conditioned. To hot to sleep confortably even with ceiling fan. But DON'T touch the thermostat.

Ants in the downstairs bedroom BED.. yes.. for real.

Washcloths provided were so thin they were virtually rags.

Innkeeper is obviously "cutting corners" .. but I paid FULL price.

On the bright side.. the food was good.

FYI - I left a review on B&B.com.. the source of why I selected the Bitter Sweet Inn.. However, it was never published.. apparently B&B.com allow only accept positive reviews.. NOT the truth of the traveler's experience..

“Ants”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

I won a nights stay at a silent auction at this bed and breakfast. I was very excited as I had always wanted to stay at one but was very disappointed. The room was crowded and had too many plants and knick-knacks. The bathroom in the suite as a sink and a toilet with the shower out in the bedroom. You could wash your hands while sitting on the toilet. That was weird but okay until we came back after having dinner and found a infestation of ants. They were in the bed, the carpet, on the ceiling, the curtains and the wall by the window. I went to get the owner and she made the comment that they were not there when she turned down the bed. Like we brought ants into the room. She also made the comment that she could not understand it because she sprayed before we arrived. To me that means she knew there was a problem. I had to pay $16 for the tax on the room. She did offer us one of the other rooms but they were upstairs and very hot as she did not have the air conditioning on upstairs. I would not have been able to sleep in that house because I would have felt like ants were crawling over my all night. She did not offer to refund my $16 or did she offer us another nights stay. I tried to leave a review on the bed and breakfast website but was refused because I could not provide a receipt. The owner did not provide a receipt for the $16 but took the cash fast enough. I have learned not to trust these websites as they only care about the owners not the guests. Can't comment on the food as we did not get the breakfast portion either except to say the lemonpoppyseed bread she gave us to try was very dry. This was supposed to be a fun weekend as the night we were supposed to stay was my sister's birthday. Don't stay here!!!
