“Not terrible, but overpriced on my stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

This place was mediocre enough that nothing bad or good really stood out. Everything was okay, and it wouldn't have been such a terrible place except that it was $85 per night. It would have been fine with a walk-up coupon at $39, although I don't know if such a deal exists. As it was, we had no choice because we had a dog with us and there were no other pet-friendly places available that day. (Dog was an extra $10 above the $85 rate, which made it seem even more overpriced.)

We skipped their breakfast and ate at the Waffle House next door, so I can't comment on the breakfast.

I would agree with other reviewers that it seemed a bit rundown and neglected, but it wasn't filthy and furniture was all in decent condition. It just lacked that attention to detail that makes even basic motels seem nicer, and that might have justified the higher rate.

Room Tip: There are rooms in the back around a small parking lot. These might be quieter than those facing the...

“"Would think twice about staying here again"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

After staying here for two nights, these are our collective observations. If this had all happened when we first arrived, we would have found another place to stay.
PROs: Friendly and helpful staff, HOT water straight out of the faucet, quiet rooms...i.e. you don't hear any outside noise or your neighbors, free local calls, internet, daily paper. There's a second phone by the toilet--if you like that sort of thing. Basic breakfast--honestly didn't eat much here---went to McDonald's instead.
CONs: Found a LARGE spider in the bathroom upon arrival and another LARGE one hopping across the floor by the bed second night. Found a small dead one in the bed on second night. Spider webs in the corner. Rooms have been updated with wallpaper, newer beds, but obviously original carpet as it turns your bare feet black with just a few trips from the bed to bathroom. HOT water--would be a hazard to small children--way hotter than our water at home. NOISY air conditioner under the window--think freight train--when it kicks on to cool. In-room refrigerator with the freezer so frosted that you couldn't put anything in it. Found trash--plastic cup, wrappers, etc. (NOT ours) under the bed when checking to be sure we didn't leave anything behind.

Room Tip: Find a place without spiders.

“Would not stay here again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

We have had good luck with Best Western hotels in the past and decided to continue to stay at them. This one was not good. The room was dirty, cobwebs in the corners, dust on the carpet in corners, between beds and between bed and wall, stains on the carpet, bathroom floor was dirty, and fixtures were dusty. The breakfast was also disappointing. The good things: parking in front of the room, in room microwave and fridge, staff was friendly.

Also, right now the hotel is difficult to get to as the exit is closed. We had to go past to another exit and come back on road construction.

“Convenient and serviceable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

I was only at this hotel a couple of nights due to a serious family matter, so I didn't take full advantage of the faclities. There is a nice pool, and the breakfast was typical of the Best Westerns...self made waffles, boiled eggs, variety of fruit, pastries and cereals. Juice, tea, coffee. The dining area was adequate to the numbers of people having breakfast. Front desk was helpful. The room I had was a handicapped room and a best musty, but it was an easy access from parking . The walk up the steps to the front past the pool was fine for me, non handicapped. I assume someone in a wheel chair or with walking difficulties would need to drive around to the front of the building for breakfast. A short walk up the street is a side street where the Rolla visitors center is, along with Chamber of Commerce office. A small park , quite pleasant. And down the street is a Rt 66 attraction that's one of the oldest (it says) along the old Rt 66. This hotel is convenient to the highway, in fact, you can drive almost directly to the hwy from the cross street light. I had a quick response to their survey, with a problem I thought they might have had (but fortunately they checked, and relieved my fears). The bathroom small fridge was icing up, so it would freeze drinks. I think they may have addressed that. At any rate, the survey sent was responded to quickly. I did not have time to talk to the desk about the problem while there, because of pressing matters, so their follow up was appreciated.

“Oasis!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

We have stayed at this hotel several times! Twice we've been snowed in when the interstate closed down and this last time it was the middle of a draught and we woke up to a huge thunderstorm - 4" of rain! Of course, the weather is not the hotel's responsibility! Each time we have stayed the rooms have been spotless, the beds are very comfortable, the breakfast has been very good, and the staff has been excellent! The management takes very good care of her guests and her staff - you can tell by all the happy employees that have a friendly greeting every time you pass them. Your every wish is their suggestion!! There are newer looking properties around this one...but the Coachlight shines in customer care!
