“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My husband &I went this past fall; went Bass Pro in springfield & usually avoid the snares of the "deals"; our offer was for $99 for 2 nights + plus gift cards (3 I think) a $100 and 2 $25's if I remember. Our room was lovely however on the back side by the tool shed & trash bins I think; no view but we didn't mind too much. Beds were marvelous. Why was there a large regular size house window in between the bathroom & the rest of the room? At least there was a shade. We have been married 40 years-still there are some things I can just do without seeing unless I have to!!! We told the young man we heard the spiel from right up front we were not interested, we would listen to fulfill our part but we wouldn't be buying. Maybe if we were younger we would have been. Fixed incomes puts limits on things. I know someone who has this similar thing (plus very good incomes) & they take their whole families as least yearly somewhere. I don't mean to imply their family is not paying some, too, but the extended family get good deals from their bookings, too. So, maybe for some it is a great deal! Didn't work for us, but it is a beautiful place!

Room Tip: We didn't have a choice!

“Relax and Kick Back”

There is not a bad time to visit Big Cedar Lodge, we have been there all 4 different seasons and enjoyed them all! In the Fall and winter it is wonderful just to read by the fire in your cabin or play board games or go for a walk or enjoy fresh cookies brought to you by the Cookie lady! Maybe even go for a dip in the hot tub or swim in the pool. In the Spring it is a beautiful time to enjoy the forest and flowers as they come in bloom and maybe take in the campfire and smores or play bingo. Then in the summer we like to take our grandkids they love the lazy river! Everything is decorated beautifully and the staff is always great to take care of any thing you need, more coffee (which is great), tea, towels and lots of fire wood to burn. You can't empty the firewood before they bring you more. Great place to relax and cook if you want or go out to eat. Perfect place to just kick back and enjoy the view!

Room Tip: Cabin or Lodge they are both beautifully decorated!

“Always a Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

My husband and I have been going to Big Cedar every year for the last 8 years. We always go in late January and stay for a long weekend in a lakeside cabin. This past trip, like every trip, was very nice. The property is beautiful and it is a perfect spot for a romantic getaway.

My only caution is that the staff, although always very pleasant, are not always as accommodating as you may expect for a 4 star hotel and resort. More than once we have been told that they could not help us with a late check-out (even though the resort was not at full capacity) and we have had our spa services/other activities changed last minute and without our knowledge. Over the years there have been a handful of issues such as these but nothing to keep us from coming back.

All in all I would recommend coming here - just be ready to go with the flow.

“Winter Delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Of all the resorts we have been to, BIG CEDAR is our top favorite in the midwest! What a relaxing way to get through winter and escape the city life! It has something for everyone! We love the ability to just stay on the grounds..places to eat..from simple to very gourmet. Or cook our own meals. The shuttle is a great addition. The fitness center is one of the best we have ever been to. The history and beauty of this resort is an asset. We come about 3-4x a year. It is great girl friend getaway retreat or a men's retreat to golf the awesome courses around Branson. It is a must see and stay resort in the midwest!

Room Tip: Cabins are awesome! THE lodges have great views of the Lake...Ask for a higher floor.
