My goodness, where do I begin? So our family was driving back home to Chicago from Kansas City. We hadn't planned on spending the night in St. Louis, but thunderstorms had slowed us down and with a 6 year old and 2 year old, we decided to surrender and find a hotel. About an hour out of St. Louis, my task was to find a hotel while my husband was driving. He said, "Why don't you go with a Marriott? That's a safe bet." So I picked something from my smartphone that seemed decent enough. The name of the hotel is very misleading. First of all, once we got into town, we circled the Galleria shopping mall thinking the hotel was next to it or connected to it. It was actually out of the way and tucked behind another area. When I had booked the room over the phone, I chose the "penthouse" and thought it would be the best. Think again. It was the worst setup for a family with small kids, especially a 2 y.o. "Two bedrooms" was more like a loft with a steep staircase that I cringed at when I saw it - again, not good for the 2 y.o. who was unsteady on his feet to begin with. The floors on the second level creaked every time you walked on them. Both tvs were broken - the first floor tv's remote control didn't work; the second floor tv's volume was stuck on loud mode. The beds were very uncomfortable, with a sheet missing on one of them. Really?? How does maid service forget to put a sheet on a bed when servicing a room? My husband and the 2 y.o. took the bed on the first floor while my 6 y.o. and I took the bed on the second floor. My husband and I could hear arguing neighbors (thin walls), and even the 2 y.o. who had a limited vocabulary said phrases like "I go" and "get shoes". It was so bad he wanted to leave too! What takes the cake is, very early in the morning, I heard strange sounds which I thought were either my husband or 2 y.o. breathing heavily. It turns out it wasn't either of them; it was the bleeping birds in the fireplace chirping away! My husband and I got up before both kids (with neither of us getting good rest), packed whatever we had out which wasn't much, and stared at the kids until they woke up. We couldn't wait to dash out of there. We didn't stay for breakfast. This place was one of THE WORST Marriott properties we have ever stayed at, and we've stayed at many, both domestically and internationally. Don't stay here! You will regret it.
