I'm really not a high maintenance traveller. I've stayed in numerous Super 8s across the country in my travels and while no Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn I am generally satisfied with the service, that the rooms are basically adequate and that my 8lb shihtzu is usually allowed to stay for an extra 5 or 10 bucks. None of this was the case with this place. From the start, the grounds looked creepy--dirty, littered, poorly maintained. Yet, we were tired and hungry and decided to check it out anyway as it was after 8pm and we were road weary. No one was at the front desk when I came in but there were a couple of questionable people I later noted that the clerk seemed to know hanging out in the lobby. After several minutes she came out from the back and seemed put out that I was at the counter. She sighed when I asked her if pets were allowed. She said they were with a $50 NONREFUNDABLE deposit. When I said "Nonrefundable?" she rolled her eyes at me. Thankfully, this sent me out the door and a couple blocks down the block to the Drury Hotel where pets, breakfast and dinner are FREE, the service was impeccable and beds were heavenly. The amenities and service practically zeroed out the cost of the room. Seriously, do not waste your time at Super 8 in Poplar Bluff.
