We read the previous review and thought that maybe it was just an isolated incident, so we went ahead with making reservations through Super 8's 1-800 number. When we stopped for dinner at 4:30 in Kansas City, we decided to call the hotel directly and confirm that we would arrive after 6 p.m. They could not find our reservations by either our name or confirmation number. I immediately called the 1-800 number and was given the number to their Customer Service Center. The CS rep called the hotel and then told me that the clerk at the front desk had misunderstood the confirmation number that I gave her and that our reservations were fine, just as we had requested. However, when I had first called the hotel, the clerk told me that only smoking rooms were left. My husband and I did not trust that our non-smoking room would be a non-smoking room when we arrived. Since I am allergic to cigarette smoke, I could not chance being ill the rest of our vacation due to a potential cover-up on the part of the CS rep.
We called several other hotel chains on our route and made other arrangements, then cancelled the room here. We did not ever go to the hotel, so we cannot say for sure that this was a cover-up, but it smelled fishy and, given the review we had read, we were not taking any chances!
