This was my second stay at the Wingate by Wyndham in Maryland Heights, MO. Both times I was assigned this lodging at a very reasonable rate by Hotwire. This hotel is conveniently located in an office park near I-70 and several other beltways and interstates west of Lambert Field in St. Louis. Both my stays here have been excellent. On this last visit, I was placed in a first floor room just steps from the lobby. Despite this, my room was incredibly quiet. Perhaps because it was a first floor room, the ceiling was unusually high adding to the feeling of spaciousness. The sleeping and sitting areas are subtly separated. Perhaps perceived as an extended stay lodging, the room came equipped with a microwave, and 3' tall not-so-mini fridge and Neutragena amenities in the bathroom. The sitting area had a full-length couch, end table with lamp, and a large desk with, miracle of miracles, a three-way bulb providing excellent light for evening work. The sleeping area had a very comfortable king-sized bed, a large-screen TV (not a flatscreen model), a large chest of drawers, and end tables with lamps. The bed's headboard, the mirror opposite, the lampshades and the drawer hardware were all fashioned in a faux-Chippendale style. The room was adorned with four hotel-generic floral paintings. The heating/cooling unit worked with admirable efficiency. A complimentary breakfast including pre-cooked plain omelets, bacon and sausage of an indeterminate age, breads, machine dispensed juices, yogurts, particularly good commercial doughnuts (the kind that are so good you're not really supposed to eat them, but I did!), yogurts, breads, etc. is offered from 6-9 AM weekday mornings and 7-10 on week-ends.
The hotel is located next to a Mobil station with a Burger King attached (yet peace and quiet still reign inside) and there's a Dave and Buster's down the street as well as a casino. I found the free parking close to the entrance and was warmly greeted and accommodated by the front desk staff (a wonderful late-afternoon young woman and an especially on-his-toes day male manager). There is a shuttle service to Lambert Field.
Room Tip: I would think most rooms are good, but first floor rooms have higher ceilings and easier access to t...
