My family(husband, MIL, 5 year old son and 10 year old daughter) arrived for a quick one night stay at this hotel on our way from Dover, DE to Branson, MO. Mind you, it was 100+ degrees all day, and when we arrived around 5;45 pm, it was still 95 according to the bank up the street(YIKES). we arrived, were checked in quickly(less than 10 minutes), and went up to our room to put our food in the small fridge we paid $5 extra dollars for and left for the Denny's across the street for dinner. That was the ONLY plus, the close proximity to food and St Louis.
Upon arriving back from Denny's with 5 takeout boxes of food, we found the refrigerator had not gotten cold AT ALL in the 1+ hour we were gone?!?!? I was stumped, checked for a knob to adjust the temp, but there wasn't one. Then I noticed that it was probably 85 degrees IN the room! My husband(who does AC work for a living), checked it to make sure it wasn't on heat or fan, but it wasn't, so something was wrong obviously. I proceeded to go to the front desk to complain about both issues and the employee(didn't get her name, unfortunately) sat on her cell phone for a good 5 minutes before even asking me if I needed something(no, I was just standing there, DUHH!) Her response was she would text the maintenance person, but he was not on site, so she had no idea what he would do. I expected a call back(as I asked her to call me with some kind of answer), and went back upstairs to try and get my kids to sleep, which was virtually impossible given the room temp!
About 1 hour later, after not hearing ANYTHING from the front desk, I returned downstairs to inquire about what would be done, and was told "he never answered my text." No offer of another room, no apology NOTHING. I proceeded to tell her that my son has asthma, which he does, and it was unacceptable to make us stay in that room, as well as to have all our food go bad(we had food we brought from home for the trip as well!) At this point, she replied "Well, we do have a refrigerator down here you can put your stuff in if you want" but I was concerned that other guests would feel free to take our food(not knowing whether other guests had access to it). After a while, I did bring our bag down and put it in a large almost full walk in that held the breakfast bar items and let her know that I would be back to get the bag in the morning before we checked out. She said she would leave a note for the morning person and it wouldn't be a problem.
I did use the exercise room, which was another joke, as it was obviously a renovated guest room that had 3 pieces of exercise equipment(treadmill, exercise bike, step machine) placed in it. I walked in and was sweating BEFORE exercising, not surprising given the fact that I found the HEAT on! I turned it to AC and proceeded to use the treadmill, but of course, it never got cool enough to be comfortable and I left after about 15 minutes, drenched in sweat(not from exercising!)
As for our room, other than being EXTREMELY hot all night(maintenance never DID show up or even call!), it was decent, although we were too hot and tired to really notice anything major. The cofee maker did work, so that was a plus for my MIL who drinks coffee even when it's 100+ outside(reallY!) The bathroom was decent, and we brought out own 'supplies' so we didn't even notice if any freebies were there(yes, 3 of us took showers). The tv was adequate and the beds were ok, although I did itch ALOT that night, although I didn't see any bug bites after leaving.
As for the pet policy, I think it's a joke, as they don't even keep them to one section of the hotel, which could be bad for people with allergies(luckily my son's asthma is not triggered by allergies). We ran into 1 pitbull(small) and 1 bigger dog in the elevator and had to wait for another one, which was inconvenient for us. The smell in the hallways was also AWFUL, although it didn't smell like dog(we have one but he was left with a sitter at home).
The only good thing about the whole stay was the free breakfast, which was actually perfect for us. They offered both little heart-shaped waffles(which my son loved!) or Belgian waffles(which were great for the adults), as well as a varitety of cereal, bagels, muffins, toast, and eggs, with juice, milk, and coffee(maybe tea, we didn't look). That was definitely a pleasant surprise after the rest of the problems we encountered.
I definitely don't recommend this hotel, as even for cheap, it's not worth it. Oh, the manager the next day apologized profusely for the AC and fridge problems and gave us a $23 credit for our trouble, but I think it should've been FREE. If we hadn't been leaving early in the am, we would've checked out immediately upon arrival. Luckily we went on to have a great time in St Louis and in Branson, so it is just a bad memory.
