“Excellent hotel with some unpleasant guests”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2010

I've always had great experiences at this hotel. I find the staff is very friendly, and the rooms are always very neat and tidy. My only real issue is that we have stayed there a few times now, and the last couple of times there have been some pretty scary people hanging around the hotel. I understand that the hotel only has so much control, but when there are a bunch of people hanging out in the hallways and in the parking lot, it's not the idea place to stay when you have young children. I recommend to find a more family friendly hotel if you have kids, other than that it's great.

“MAYBE THE OTHER LA QUINTA'S OFF 270 would have been better....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

I went to St.Louis last weekend for my alma mater's annual football game. I'm from St.Louis, but since I was bringing my boyfriend on this trip I opted to get a hotel room instead of staying with family. After playing eny, meany, miny, moe with choosing between this la quinta and the other 2 off of 270 we picked this one...what a big mistake! First off, there is contruction going on right in front of the entrance to get to the hotel. Be careful and cautious in regards to cars letting you in and out of the driveway. Secondly, we picked this hotel b/c of the check-in time of 1:00pm....a lie! Their check-in time is the same as most hotels...3:00pm. This would have been fine had I not driven 6 hrs in swears pants and a t-shirt and wanted to shower before heading out to the mall. So as I am standing at the front desk for several minutes listening to the front desk manager argue with someone about "picking up their documents before 3 pm" to check in, a plain clothes police officer informs me that the front desk manager is on the phone with a "suspect" and is "working a case" for the police department and will get to us shortly. I should have grabbed my bags and looked for another hotel at that moment, but all I wanted was a hot shower and to change clothes. When I informed the front desk manager that I was checking in (at 1:19pm) I was told that the room would not be ready until 3. When I told her that my reservation said check-in is at 1 i was told ,"Oh...in a perfect world I wish it would be ready at 1, but housekeeping is still cleaning the rooms." I held my tongue as I eyed the police officer and was then told that i had time to go grab something to eat until the room was ready.....if i wanted food I would have done that first! So my boyfriend and I sat in the lobby pissed and tried to decide what we were going to do for the next hr and half until the room was ready. The officer made small talk with us and informed us to take anything of value out of the car because St.Louis had become so bad with crime( I already knew this though) and then all of a sudden the front desk manager informs us that she has a room available and lets us check in....at 1:45. As we come back in from grabbing our bags from the car all of a sudden 4 more guests were able to check-in...maybe this had something to do with the "case" they were working on for the police....
We get in the room and it was average. You are hit with a very damp and humid feel when u walk in the room. Kinda like 75 degree weather after a rain in the room. The room was clean with outdated decor. Bathroom was clean expect for the sinking getting stopped up. The power button on the remote didnt work but we just slept with the tv on. The next morning, the elevator didnt work but by late that evening the problem had been fixed. The upside to the hotel was that it was relatively quiet, there is a Denny's right across the street (if you can fight the traffic to get across the street) and you are 5 miles from St.Louis mills and 15 mins from West County mall with quick access to I-70,I-170, I-44, and I-64. So would I stay here again...not at all, but fot $52/night I can't expect the Hilton....

“95 DEGREES AT 7PM AND *NO* AC!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

My family(husband, MIL, 5 year old son and 10 year old daughter) arrived for a quick one night stay at this hotel on our way from Dover, DE to Branson, MO. Mind you, it was 100+ degrees all day, and when we arrived around 5;45 pm, it was still 95 according to the bank up the street(YIKES). we arrived, were checked in quickly(less than 10 minutes), and went up to our room to put our food in the small fridge we paid $5 extra dollars for and left for the Denny's across the street for dinner. That was the ONLY plus, the close proximity to food and St Louis.

Upon arriving back from Denny's with 5 takeout boxes of food, we found the refrigerator had not gotten cold AT ALL in the 1+ hour we were gone?!?!? I was stumped, checked for a knob to adjust the temp, but there wasn't one. Then I noticed that it was probably 85 degrees IN the room! My husband(who does AC work for a living), checked it to make sure it wasn't on heat or fan, but it wasn't, so something was wrong obviously. I proceeded to go to the front desk to complain about both issues and the employee(didn't get her name, unfortunately) sat on her cell phone for a good 5 minutes before even asking me if I needed something(no, I was just standing there, DUHH!) Her response was she would text the maintenance person, but he was not on site, so she had no idea what he would do. I expected a call back(as I asked her to call me with some kind of answer), and went back upstairs to try and get my kids to sleep, which was virtually impossible given the room temp!

About 1 hour later, after not hearing ANYTHING from the front desk, I returned downstairs to inquire about what would be done, and was told "he never answered my text." No offer of another room, no apology NOTHING. I proceeded to tell her that my son has asthma, which he does, and it was unacceptable to make us stay in that room, as well as to have all our food go bad(we had food we brought from home for the trip as well!) At this point, she replied "Well, we do have a refrigerator down here you can put your stuff in if you want" but I was concerned that other guests would feel free to take our food(not knowing whether other guests had access to it). After a while, I did bring our bag down and put it in a large almost full walk in that held the breakfast bar items and let her know that I would be back to get the bag in the morning before we checked out. She said she would leave a note for the morning person and it wouldn't be a problem.

I did use the exercise room, which was another joke, as it was obviously a renovated guest room that had 3 pieces of exercise equipment(treadmill, exercise bike, step machine) placed in it. I walked in and was sweating BEFORE exercising, not surprising given the fact that I found the HEAT on! I turned it to AC and proceeded to use the treadmill, but of course, it never got cool enough to be comfortable and I left after about 15 minutes, drenched in sweat(not from exercising!)

As for our room, other than being EXTREMELY hot all night(maintenance never DID show up or even call!), it was decent, although we were too hot and tired to really notice anything major. The cofee maker did work, so that was a plus for my MIL who drinks coffee even when it's 100+ outside(reallY!) The bathroom was decent, and we brought out own 'supplies' so we didn't even notice if any freebies were there(yes, 3 of us took showers). The tv was adequate and the beds were ok, although I did itch ALOT that night, although I didn't see any bug bites after leaving.

As for the pet policy, I think it's a joke, as they don't even keep them to one section of the hotel, which could be bad for people with allergies(luckily my son's asthma is not triggered by allergies). We ran into 1 pitbull(small) and 1 bigger dog in the elevator and had to wait for another one, which was inconvenient for us. The smell in the hallways was also AWFUL, although it didn't smell like dog(we have one but he was left with a sitter at home).

The only good thing about the whole stay was the free breakfast, which was actually perfect for us. They offered both little heart-shaped waffles(which my son loved!) or Belgian waffles(which were great for the adults), as well as a varitety of cereal, bagels, muffins, toast, and eggs, with juice, milk, and coffee(maybe tea, we didn't look). That was definitely a pleasant surprise after the rest of the problems we encountered.

I definitely don't recommend this hotel, as even for cheap, it's not worth it. Oh, the manager the next day apologized profusely for the AC and fridge problems and gave us a $23 credit for our trouble, but I think it should've been FREE. If we hadn't been leaving early in the am, we would've checked out immediately upon arrival. Luckily we went on to have a great time in St Louis and in Branson, so it is just a bad memory.

“Horrible hotel”

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Spent 4 nights there because I had already paid for it. I was not expecting 4 star service, just a clean room, clean bathroom and clean surroundings. The bed may have had bed-bugs, because I itched throught the night, the hallway was stinking, had to hold my nose just to get to my room. There is black mouldy stuffI under the bath tile wall. I will definitely NOT recommend this hotel. First time I have stayed in a La Quinta hotel, and it wil be my last time.
