“Very friendly staff, decent place”

I probably would have been too scared to stay there if I had read the other reviews, but I was going through the area and was exhausted, I think I stopped at about 2 a.m. There was a charming and helpful woman at the counter who told me one price and when she started to input it in the computer, the price had dropped by $10! I was really excited about that as it was so late. I think the price was $59, but it was late and I might not be remembering that quite right. I did notice a lot of trucks around there, as was mentioned in another review, but didn't see anyone lurking around to make me feel uncomfortable. The lobby did seem dim except for the front desk which had adequate lighting. I stayed there with my niece. The beds were comfortable...but, we crashed as soon as our heads hit the pillows. The bathroom was clean and the room seemed clean. It wasn't a 5-star, but it was comfortable, clean and adequate for the price. We didn't have the breakfast. When I was leaving, I went to the front desk to turn in the keys and there was a very nice man there, and there was a nice woman cleaning up the kitchen area. I got to my car and couldn't find something, I went back in and the man and woman who were in there went out of their way to try to help me find it. I appreciated their extra help, even though we didn't find it (I found it in the car when I went back out). I would stay there again if I ever get to that area.

“Don't stay here”

Late at night at the end of November and we needed a short sleep to continue our 18-hour drive. I hadn't known where we would wind up and so, against my better instincts, we stopped at the Kearney, MO Comfort Inn without researching it. We've had both excellent and poor experiences at this chain. We're over 60 and travel a lot in the US and abroad. Even from the outside, this facility was obviously down at the heels but it was late and we were tired. I don't trust any of the hotel brands just from their names, and we could have checked out the others in Kearney that could have been just as bad and it would have been even later at night. The desk clerk was nice and let me see the room before we accepted at a decent price--unfortunately, I was tired and didn't look at things closely. After we trekked all of our gear into the room . . . I saw big toenail parings on the far side on the carpet (yuk, clearly, no vacuuming in this room). I never go barefoot in any hotel but this was really bad. I then pulled the covers back on the beds and found several hairs, both human and maybe a cat, on both beds. Yes, I should have called the clerk and changed rooms but I didn't give them the chance: the linens otherwise looked clean and unslept in, and I travel with our own sheets and pillowcases for such an emergency. So I put on our clean linens and swabbed the place down as usual with disinfecting cleaning wipes. Bath/shower was reasonably clean though, yes, a long dark hair in the tub. No odors in this nonsmoking room and otherwise things worked and were OK. The clerk had promised a quiet room--wouldn't book anyone on top of or below us--and it was as quiet as it could be so convenient off I-35. Breakfast seemed to have regular folks and the usual lackluster array of foods, with a competent and caring breakfast server. We left early. All I did was nicely inform the very young clerk when we left that the person who'd cleaned this room had done a bad job and they should make sure it was remedied. While the clerk didn't bother to apologize in any way, the breakfast server looked very sympathetic and thanked us for our stay. Needless to say, had I been able to do my usual research we would have headed for the Super 8.

“Too Scary for a Woman Traveling Alone”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

The rate & the proximity to I-35 were the only good things about this place. I drove in late at night & was desperate for some sleep. This was a Comfort Inn, after all, so how bad could it be. Up to now I had never stayed in one that wasn't good. First of all, this didn't appear to be a good part of town. There were a number of big trucks in the parking lot. So that's probably the reason for all the noise & activity early in the mornings. The lobby was dank &poorly lit. The desk clerk, when I could finnally get him to the counter, was a shady looking character & not very friendly. My room was not clean & the carpet was well worn. I slept okay but skipped breakfast. I couldn't wait to get away from this place.

“Gross Carpet - WiFI doesn't work”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2009

I read the other reviews on this site and chose this hotel because other travelers said it was acceptable. When booking directly with the hotel, the desk clerk tried to overcharge me.

We had 2 rooms. The carpets in both were gross. Sticky - leave your shoes on.
The room stunk - smell cleared up after running A/C for a few hours.

We booked here partially because it says it has free Wifi - try "the Wifi doesn't work in the rain" and "we have no one to call to try to get it working".

Had newer bed linens, so I did manage to sleep.

For a $74 per room after taxes, you can do much better elsewhere.

“Good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2009

It's convenient to I-35. Rooms are clean and relatively spacious. Bedding is above average. Carpet could stand replacing in some rooms. It is loud in the morning from 7-8 as people leave their rooms.

The omelets for breakfast are a nice touch. I usually stay there once a month when in the area, and feel like it's a good value for the rate.

It's not a five star hotel. It's a clean, no frills place to lay your head. If you're looking for luxury, drive in to Kansas City, double the rate and pay the 18% lodging tax. If you're looking for a $75 room with a 6% tax, this is your place.
