Thanks to Trip Advisor reviewers, we decided to stay here for the close proximity to Kauffman Field for a ball game August 4. I was interested in their 'Kick Back' food and beverage offering. The front desk clerk who checked us in said it would be really busy at 5:30, but would be less so after the initial rush was over. We decided to go a little early (5:20), since we needed to get to the game. We lined up down the hall for the few minutes we had to wait.
First station was the bar where my husband got a beer on tap and I went for a gin and tonic (they also had a few cocktails on the menu, such as martinis). Then there were nachos with cheese sauce, hot dogs, baked potatoes, broccoli soup, chicken tenders -- everything I don't usually eat, but hey, we were on vacation and it's free! The chicken tenders were the best I've ever had. I thought 2 drinks were included (one for each of us), but the nice lady at the bar advised us it was 3 drinks (each!). At a separate station was lettuce, raw carrots, celery, salad dressing. We were able to find a table, and while we were there, the hotel manager and several front desk staff were circulating -- visiting with guests and helping them get extra food or drink items or clearing things off. My husband & I were both amazed how helpful the staff were.
The walk to the ball park was easy enough (across the overpass over I-70), with sidewalks and walk lights most of the way. The last part we chose to walk down a grassy slope -- not too difficult unless you have mobility issues. We were a little disoriented getting back, but eventually followed the crowd back up the hill.
Our room at the Drury Inn was quite acceptable -- clean, quiet, and always nice to have a fridge and microwave. We had booked on the Drury Inn website for $120. plus taxes and were more than satisfied with our one-night stay. We normally stay at Holiday Inn Express, but will definitely be looking for Drury Inns in the future, and also recommending them to our friends and colleagues. Hot breakfast also included.
