Have stayed at Hotel Phillips several times over the years and again this past week with some friends for a short get away to KC. I have to say it is always a toss up about what kind of room you may get. Some are spacious and decent and others, like this past week, are small and boxy. Some have had some renovations and others need it badly. Beds are small (think they are full size) but ok. Terrible insulation, could hear every word from our neighbors all night long. Good location to Power & Light ($4 cab ride). No parking and only option is $18 valet. Staff was very nice. I wouldn't call it a 4* hotel.

hotel is centrally located just a block from the power and light building/district. Also a brisk walk from the crossroads area, which is more up and coming than up yet. The walk is a bit sketchy, with lots of abandoned buildings and vacant lots but its not too bad during the day. Plenty of good food options nearby, from the usual chains (Chipotle, BK Whopper Bar (what??), a nearby CVS. its mostly office buildings but the location is right near the interstate and it was only a 5 minute drive to Country Club Plaza area.

Parking was free at the meters for the weekend. The indoor lot on the side of the hotel had a max charge of $14/day. Valet is a few $$ more but you get in and out privileges - but then you have to take into account all the tipping.

Room service burger was tasty and very affordable -considering all the fees and charges hotels tack on.

No issues with bringing our dog. there is a small park nearby (1 block) which is a nice green space for the dog to get some breathing room. No dog specifics amenities (water dish, treats, etc) but no problems either.

The staff was friendly and the hotel lobby was nice. Elevators were musty and a little Dingy. When I arrived to my room, the room was decent but the bathroom was a little outdated.

I know that the hotel recently had renovations but I think it needs a little more work. Overall, I slept comfortably.
