“Terrible even for a budget motel, HORRIBLE management”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

We paid $70 / night for 2 nights of a stifling room b/c the airconditioner didn't work and they didn't fix it even though I called early the 2nd day to let them know. When I complained again at checkout the manager argued and argued that it was "fixed" then admitted that all she had done to "fix" it was turn it on. She absolutely refused to acknowledge that it didn't work, going so far as marching up the stairs with me in tow to show me that it worked- then wouldn't admit that it didn't work, when it didn't.
Management also complained when we asked to have another towel because there were 4 guests in our room & only 3 towels, insisting that we bring the 3 used towels to her before getting another.
Housekeeping spoke NO english and apparently assumed that whatever we said equated to "leave our room untouched" because they didn't touch the room, only passed us towels through the door- didn't make beds or empty trash. Again management ARGUED with us when we mentioned that the room went uncleaned. The Manager insisted that we told housekeeping that we didn't want service when the opposite was true, they wouldn't come in the room, just said something in a foreign language from the hall when we motioned them in.
I don't expect a lot from a budget motel, but this one was a disappointment of even my low expectations. The desk clerks, housekeeping, & management all gave far below acceptable customer service. They were rude, rude, and rude. The room was small, the beds hard, the blankets old & scratchy, the sheets had cigarette holes in them, the refrigerator was noisy, the AC didn't work, and their "breakfast" was a joke.
The only thing they got right was they loaned us an extension cord so we could put our fan in the window to cool off the room the 2nd night. Luckily we were exhausted enough to sleep through all the traffic noise from the interstate outside our window.
And of course the Manager flatly refused any sort of compensation for all their shortcomings.

Motel didn't come up to even Super 8 Standards. Could hear every step of people upstairs. First charged us $124 for 2 nights and then locked us out and charged another $178 for a second night. Subpar breakfast.

“Driver would be appreciate it if you give tips!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

The KCI Roadrunner shuttle stopped at the Delta terminal of the Kansas City Airport.

We had just gone through a series of thunderstorms that hit eastern Kansas. Since my flight didn't leave till the next day, I dismounted and retrieved my bags from the back. I went into the terminal and called the Super 8 Kansas City Airport receptionist. I told her that I had a reservation. She told me that she'd be at the Delta terminal in about 10 minutes.

I grabbed my bags and stepped outside and headed toward the median. A couple of "Parking Spot" shuttles, and a rental car bus, whirled by. Airline crews and passengers pulling luggage crossed the crosswalk to the other side of the street. Then the rains came. I stepped into the only remaining dry spots in the bus terminal, they quickly disappeared.

About 10 minutes passed when I saw the Super 8 Kansas Airport shuttle--It drove by me. Normally, the hotel shuttles stopped at every bus terminal and slowed down, just in case their customer was in those terminals. Not this time. I chased after it for a block, before it stopped at a bus terminal with 5 people. I ran to the passenger side window and waved at the driver. The man on the passenger side pointed to me and gave the facial expression that said, "here he is!"

I went to the back and loaded my bags, while refusing the driver's help. She went back to the front and drove toward Super 8 Kansas Airport hotel. We pulled right up to the front lobby. I dismounted, went to the back and grabbed my bags. The driver helped the other passenger retrieve his backs, then she went behind the receptionist counter to process us into our rooms.

I had a second floor room that overlooked the parking lot. I took my keys, grabbed my bags, and went upstairs and proceeded to my room. There are two ways to get to the room from the lobby. One was going outside, through the parking lot, and to a stairway that lead to the second floor catwalk. The second one was via the stairway, one that you could reach from the lobby. There are two rooms in the upper landing, and a door that lead to the second floor catwalk.

I went to the door to my room, and noticed that the air conditioning unit wasn't "all together." The back part was pulled out. I swiped my key, and entered the room. I turned the air conditioning unit on and it worked fine. Immediately to the right, as you enter the door, there is a working desk with a lamp. To the right was a circle table with two chairs. A couple of two drawer dressers flanked the queen-sized bed. The phone sat on the dresser near the circle table.

The sink, with complementary coffee and towels was to the back, with the bathroom in the corner.

After grounding my bags, I left the room, went through the parking lot, to the hotel across the street. Super 8 doesn't offer a restaurant, but they have a breakfast room near the lobby that offers breakfast starting at 4 AM.

The bed facilitated a good night's rest, I slept until my alarm sounded. The toilet and shower operated without interruption, stoppages, leaks, etc.

Time to check out. Nobody was behind the counter, but someone, Indian (from India) was sleeping in the lobby sofa, wrapped up with a blanket. I told him I was ready to check out, he told me to put my key on the counter, and I'd be set. Since there was time left before the shuttle took off for the airport, I grabbed some breakfast from the breakfast room. They offered biscuits and gravy as well as cold cereal. You also had the option of apple juice, coffee and milk.

Four thirty rolled around and we loaded onto the shuttle.

The front dashboard had a sign that read, "Driver will be appreciate it if you give tips." "Thank You" followed that statement. The sign didn't forget to wish the passengers a safe trip. Once we got to the airport, the driver turned the cab lights on, and checked to make sure that that sign was lighted. I jumped out, grabbed my bags and headed into the terminal without tipping the driver.

“Last resort hotel, but luckily we were only there a few hours”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2010

The family (myself, wife, and two toddlers) were making the trip back to Louisiana when our daughter would not go to sleep. We were trying to drive the majority of the way home during the night so our kids will sleep, but that did not work out. We choose this hotel because I knew it would be cheap and it was on the interstate. The room was dirty and the sheets were scratchy. In the morning, there was only a hot waffle iron and no waffle mix. I would not wish this hotel on anybody. You get what you pay for is definetly true with this hotel.

“Only in the room 10 minutes - And they refused to refund”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2007

Horrid little dingy motel. And the management is even worse.

We arrived and prepaid a 3 night stay. When we parked the car around the side and went to the rear entry, the normal security measures (magnetic lock deactivated by a room card) was not functioning. Anyone could just walk right in. How can that be legal?

Then we took our bags into the room and were horrified by how run down and worn out everything was. The carpet was worn and filthy. As were the linens and furniture.

I started to unpack and my wife tried to bite her tongue. When I looked up at the ceiling, the smoke detector was dangling from a thread bare wire! When I made eye contact with my wife, it was obvious - we couldn't spend even one night in this hotel. It was a pit.

When I went back to the front desk, another guest was checking in. So I waited until she finished (about 5 minutes) and then I informed the clerk that we wanted a refund. He glanced at the clock, and said he couldn't. Why not? We had "been in the room more than 10 minutes." What does that matter? He told me that he had no authority to make any refunds. I told him I wanted to speak to the manager. He made one phone call - no answer. A second phone call and he spoke to the manager. She concurred, no refund would be issued.

I called Super 8's customer service while I was at the front desk and registered a complaint. They told me that the General Manager would be notified and would contact me within 7 days to discuss the matter.

Another customer walked in while this conversation was going on. Assessed the situation and made the wise decision of leaving to find another hotel.

I calmly insisted on getting a refund, or at the very least speaking with a manager. But after 20 minutes I walked out of the lobby with accomplishing either. And to add insult to injury, I looked up and saw their sign flashing a nightly room rate that was $16 per night less than what I was charged (times 3 nights)!

We drove across the street and checked out (and into) another hotel.

Later that night I went back to the hotel and spoke with the (same) clerk again. I asked to speak to the manager again. He made a phone call, and down came the manager. She lives at the hotel! She proceeded to offer me a 10% discount off my next visit. Ha! She argued with me about the quality of the room. I wasn't backing down. After another 15 minutes of back and forth with her, she told me she needed to speak with her manager. I thought she was the manager! So down comes another manager, and this lady was even worse!

I finally got them to agree to refund the 2 nights that I prepaid and wasn't about to use. But they flatly refused to refund the 1st night.

I've filed a dispute with my credit card.

Stay away from this motel - it has to be the worst in the city!

The clerk told me that he could be fired for issuing a refund without his manager's approval. He should have done it anyway. Getting fired would have been the best thing that ever happened to him!!
