“Sheraton Crown Center / Former Hyatt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Just returned from a stay from 2/7 - 2/9/12. I've been coming to this hotel for the last 5 years or so every 6 months for a twice a year Convention (Value Merchandiser Show). The hotel is pretty "solid": clean. great bedding, and friendly helpful employees. Some changes that happened since Sheraton are not positive though.

Quick tip: In concerns to internet. It was my understanding that wired high speed internet tends to be faster than wireless. There was a problem in my room with the wired internet and the hotel did all it could to fix it. There really wasn't a point. The wireless internet in the hotel, even with the hotel being relatively full, was fast and efficient. Don't bother with the wired.

Room tip: Get an even numbered room on a higher floor for the best views.

Changes since Sheraton took over: The "spinning" restaurant on the top floor is closed. Also, their other "higher end" restaurant was also closed. That just leaves one restaurant open in a fairly large hotel. Also, they've changed out the shower heads. This is my biggest gripe. The Hyatt used to have these shower heads that were incredibly powerful. Now, they have shower heads where water basically trickles out. Good for their water bill... not necessarily good for the people staying here.

Anyways, all things considered, a solid, well run hotel.

Room Tip: Even numbered rooom - High as Possible.

“Does need renovating...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My husband and I stayed here over New Year's Eve. The hotel is nice enough but very dated. Especially the fitness room; it's like a maze just trying to find it and then a disappointment once you do. It was unseasonably warm during our stay so we took advantage of the weather to walk around the Crown Center Complex. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and rivals Rockefeller Plaza but on a much smaller scale. We even walked to Jack's Stack Smokehouse restaurant nearby and had some great Kansas City BBQ. Sadly two of the best restaurants that were in the Sheraton when it was still a Hyatt Hotel have closed. Hopefully when the renovations are complete new eating establishments will be available.

Room Tip: Higher up rooms have better views of the city.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am sorry you found our property to be outdated. We do have several renovations planned which will begin over the next few months including a brand new 2,100 square feet health club, and a completely new design for our lobby and front drive, as well as some updates to our guest rooms. We hope you come back and see us in the near future and I am glad to hear you enjoyed your time in Kansas City.

“Great rate during renovation!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

My wife and I stayed there over New Year's Eve due to the proximity to Union Station. We had booked a very low rate due to their renovation that was happening as a result of the changeover from being a Hyatt property. The room was nice, but not fancy. I suspect the upgrade will make it what it used to be. The biggest gripe for us was no coffee maker. We were told they are on order.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of downtown KC.

“Hammer Drill woke us up at 9 AM.”

Booked a room for $100 through Priceline. When we complained about the construction on the floor above us waking us up the front desk said there was nothing they could do about it since we booked through Priceline. I complained to Priceline - they called Rose and she said there wouldn't give a refund on the room.

If you have a problem at the hotel, don't talk to the short girl at the front desk - you'll be tempted to jump over the counter and choke her.

“Nice hotel in a sleepy city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

This hotel was one of the nicest looking ones my husband and I found online, and it had good reviews. We stayed here because we were attending the kc chiefs Monday night football game on Halloween. The town shuts down around 8 or 9 (not used to that being from Cali). our room was on the 32nd floor I believe, with a great view of the city. Room was clean, and large. We had to request a coffee maker-which someone else had posted on here. Also we got the maintenance guy to unclog the shower drain in less than 10 min of calling. Also got free water bottles from room service when the vending machine took my money without giving me anything back. Staff was friendly and helpful. It would have been nice to have a free breKfast or at least some kind of discount for their restaurant or bar (which we didn't eat at). the hotel was pretty quiet and almost lonely. If I came to kc again I would stay here.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing downtown on a higher level. Elevators get u up there quickly.
