“Econolodge at Kansas City airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I stay at this Econo once a week, have been doing so for a year or so. Although it is not opulent, it is very convenient to the airport, has excellent shuttle service to/from the airport and auto rental facility, is quiet, and the price is the best in the area by far. I have gotten to know the management and desk staff and am treated with courtesy and consideration. As a business traveler interested in ready access to early morning flights, this hotel is my first choice.

Room Tip: I like 2nd floor with view to rear. There's often local wildlife (deer) to watch.

“RUDE man at front desk”

We chose this hotel so that we could park, sleep and fly. There were many other hotels in the area and we made the mistake of picking this one. PLEASE PLEASE pay attention to the reviews on trip advisor regarding this dump, they are accurate!!

It took at least 20 minutes for us to check in. The owner was working the front desk and he was the most hateful person I have ever met in my life. On top of being rude, you could hardly understand his broken english.
While we were waiting to check in, the phone rang and the rude man answered it and it was obvious that it was someone waiting to be picked up at the airport. He was very hateful to them as well.

The room is less then what you would expect for an Econo Lodge. We had two guests sharing our room with us, two ladybugs who crawled around on the ceiling all night long.

The water for the shower was luke warm, so don't count on a hot shower at this place

The next morning, we weren't even checked out when the maid opens the door and walks in.
We waited 30 minutes for the owner once again to get off his butt and take us to the airport. With the way he drove, I thought I was in a third world country. He had a sign posted in the van "gratuities greatly accepted". Like hell if I would give him a tip.
Most hotels shuttles help you load your back, not this man. He isn't going to do anything more then he has to and he acts as if he is doing you a favor.

I always review a hotel on trip advisor immediately, but I held off doing it because I was worried that if I did, and the rude owner saw my post, that he wouldn't pick us up at the airport. Yes he really is that bad!!!
3 days before we were to fly back we were already dreading having to deal with him, so we decided that when we arrived back in Kansas City, instead of calling them to "get what we paid for" we would just call a taxi and that is what we did.

Do NOT stay at this motel and put up with the rude man. Pay an extra $10, $20, hell $50 and be treated with respect!!!

Room Tip: Read the reviews on trip advisor and pay attention to them!

“Save your money, and your time, and don't even try here.”

Even after I had struggled to look for hotels due to my predicament, not only is this off the beaten path (the city bus has a special route for hotels, and foodstuffs in the area, and it can't even get to the DOOR because it's down a narrow, long road) but the property not only looked terrible (beer cans, used toilet paper, old clothing), the inside was dim, terribly lit, and the staff was amazingly rude. To top everything off, as I sat outside waiting for a vehicle to leave, I saw them entering the building with supplies consisting of paper plates, jugs of orange juice and packages of condensed and powdered milk from a supermarket. Conveniently ignoring the trash on their way in.

If this weren't enough, even after explaining a circumstance and having a website they were listed under send a reservation, they denied having a reservation (despite having a very uncommon and similar last name to mine in their system) and told me that they wouldn't allow me a room regardless of any circumstance.

Don't go here, don't spend time thinking or even waste your time, if the lobby was any indication of the rooms, I'm picturing mold, bed bugs, and fleas.

Room Tip: I'd imagine there are no good rooms, even the lobby was worn in, darker than an alleyway at nigh...

We have recently replaced all our pillows. We have transportation to and from the airport 4:30 am to Midnight. We have a continental breakfast. We have a regular program to exterminate bugs. We checked all rooms and could not find any bugs. We have a nice hotel with reasonable, affordable rooms.

“Don't even make a reservation here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

I made a reservation at this motel for one night while passing through the airport. Before my trip, y wife read the Tripadvisor reviews and urged me to find another venue, as the reviews made this one sound so awful. I timely cancelled my reservation at this Econo-Lodge, consistent with the stated 24-hour policy, but my credit card was nevertheless billed. Since May, I have been attempting to secure reimbursement, but found the owner/manager rude and dismissive. I did not even stay at this Econo-Lodge, yet managed to have a terrible experience, and am still fighting to get a refund.
