“I like Red Roof Inns but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

the last 2 I stayed in were not as clean as I'd like. Not filthy or disgusting, but my main gripe with some budget motels is that often they could easily be more clean or well maintained, but apparently no one is held accountable for these issues. At this Red Roof I was greeted cordially by one front desk staff person, but the other one was somewhat reserved (no pun intended). Also noted on both my recent stays at Red Roof, I had to get a room with 2 double beds even though I only need one, because of smoking preference. This is a $5 difference, not a huge issue, but is this standard procedure to increase revenues? I find it somewhat curious anyway, that it happened on both recent stays. No real complaints, except sink stopper did not work and there was old lollipop residue on the night table. Also the fabric on the chair was very dusty and stained. I slept well, the location was quiet enough and easy to find.

“This place needs some work”

In the past I have been very pleased with Red Roof Inns. I had stayed at this particular inn on at least three previous trips to Kansas City, Missouri. However, this time around, I was somewhat dissappointed with this inn. Upon pulling into the parking lot, I noticed some rather hefty potholes in the parking lot. Not a great first impression. When I first arrived in my room, it seemed to be OK. The beds appeared to be in order and the sink area looked OK. All items like towels, cups and soaps were there. However, when I went into the bathroom, I discovered that the toilet was stained and did not flush well. When I looked in the bathtub, there was a ring shaped rust stain on the bottom of the bathtub. Apparently someone used the tub as a big cooler. At one point, while I was using the bathroom, a salbug or pillbug crawled by. I later folded the bedspread back and discovered that the blanket had holes in it. When I tried to turn on the TV, I could not get the remote to work. I realize this is supposed to be an economy inn. However, when inns start economizing on things like cleanliness, working plumbing and decent bedding, that's not a bargain.

After my visit, I complained to Red Roof Inns concerning this property. They gave me a gift card good for a free nights stay. I doubt if I will use it at this inn. This Red Roof Inn showed a disturbing trend in economy lodging. In an effort to keep costs down they are economizing on the wrong things. I hope my comments result in this place getting cleaned up. Either that or may-be Red Roof Inns should disinfranchise this property.

“Clean rooms, friendly service, good rate, better location ... we're hooked”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

We often visit the Kansas City area. I have family in many of the suburbs of K.C. We have stayed at this Red Roof Inn on several occassions, and compared to other places we've stayed for similar prices, this one takes the cake. This is now the only place we stay when we go to Kansas City.

Our experience always begins with a friendly person at the check-in counter--even when we roll into town at 3 am. It's always a friendly, hassle-free check-in.

Next, we're able to plop ourselves down into clean beds in a tidy, well-maintained room. We never have to wonder if the sheets will be clean or if everything in the room will be working. Everything is always very nice. You can tell it's an older building, but it's well maintained. The tubs are shiny, the mattresses are new, the linens are crisp and clean, the heating and air conditioning work well, etc. In fact, they usually keep the rooms nice and cool in the summer and nice and warm in the winter, so the room is already comfortable when you walk in. (Much better than paying $10 less at another hotel, but having to wait until the crack of dawn for the room temperature to finally be comfortable.)

They are also very thoughtful and family-friendly in other ways. They do have a few microwaves and refrigerators available upon request. We've never not been able to get a fridge, but we do book about 3-6 weeks in advance. They have also provided us with a nice, clean pack-and-play for our 1-year-old to sleep in. Most recently, we stayed with our now 2-year old and twin 9-month-olds. We brought our own pack-and-plays this time, but again, we had a good experience.

We really appreciate that the location is right next to World's of Fun and near the intersection of two main highways. It takes about 15 minutes to get just about anywhere in the Kansas City area we like to go.

The front desk people are always able to recommend the best local restaurants and attractions, especially for families on a budget. Last year, for example, we mentioned that next time we wanted to visit World's of Fun. The lady made sure to tell us to buy our tickets online a certain way so that we could get admission and lunch for $10 less than we would have paid for just admission if we paid at the gate. So this year we went to World's of Fun, stayed at this hotel (another good experience-no surprise), got a discounted rate at the theme park, ate a delicious bar-b-que brisket lunch, and had lots of fun. We have also visited restaurants they've recommended and haven't had any bad experiences yet.

Also, I always feel secure with my kids when we stay because they have key-card entry to get in and interior swing locks up high on the doors. So even though my 2-year-old is now smart enough and strong enough to open the door, the higher interior lock means he can't just walk out whenever he wants. (Like if he were to wake-up at 4 am, as he often does.)

This is now the only place we stay. Their rates are in the price-range where you never know when booking for the first time at a particular hotel what to expect. Some hotels in the price range are creepy/dirty/run-down ... This is definately on the very high end of hotels in its price range.

Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that my husband and I have also stayed here before we had kids, and we enjoyed it then, as well. They had several new releases that we could rent and view from in the room. We enjoyed our couples' night in. I think they also had some sort of video game set-up in the room, too ... for people with older kids.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are more convenient for loading and unloading the vehicle. We always like to get...

“Birthday trip: Not as planned :(”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

We came her in Feb for a small get-a-way for my fiancée birthday. We choose to stay from a recommendation from a friend, the only good thing he mentioned from the hotel was prices were cheap and the location between the 2 casinos was very accessible. I booked a King NON smoking room. Upon arrival the guest services clerk was rude and very cold. She gave us our keys, we wondered around until we found our room. We unload to take a shower, no bathroom essentials. Carpet is old, smelled musty. A/c worked good, noisy. Tv is outdated as well. Room was spacious for a hotel room. We get ready for bed and find SEVERAL cigarette burns all over the comforter? We booked a NON smoking king?? That was very disgusting, nasty!! Bathrooms could of used a nice scrubbing and more than 2 towels! Price was great for quality of stay! Didn't feel very secure or safe hotel. We will not be visiting Red Roof Kansas City every again, and we probably won't be visiting any other Red Roof after that experience :(

“Excellent Value!”

If you are not into all the "extra frills" for the extra extra bills, this motel will work great. Clean exterior & appearance. Room is clean but not upper quality. A/c is ice cold, next door to convenince store & Subway. Wi-fi & ice cube machines through out complex. There is coffee at the check in desk and vending machines (no coffee maker, micro or frige in room). I paid almost double the for a motel for a near by motel during the weekday. Very friendly staff. Very affordable. Excellent for someone watching their wallet with out compromise.

Room Tip: Plenty of parking at the back of motel for uhalls or towing trailer. Sign says no semis but did see...
