“Newer hotel, dirty rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2010

The hotel is newer, but the rooms are not clean. There was sticky food residue on the counter, our sink was clogged with what looked like barf... Not pleasant. The night clerk questioned me on why I had signified late arrival on my reservation when I was checking in at 11:00 at night, which I thought was incredibly dumb. He talked on his personal cell phone the whole time I was checking in. Last but not least, there is no elevator, so I schlepped heavy bags up the stairs (being pregnant, this was not fun) while my husband carried our sleeping daughter. Find somewhere else to stay, there are plenty of other choices around here.

“A pleasant surprise!”

5 poker players met to play in a tournament at the Downstream Casino. I had made the reservations for two rooms before reading the reviews. Just before leaving home I checked the reviews and I was worried that I had made reservations at the wrong place. We met at the casino and decided to check the motel out before canceling. It was a short drive from the casino. When we walked into the lobby it smelled clean and fresh and was spotless and the desk person was friendly. We were early and our rooms weren't ready, but the staffer offered to show us another room so we could see what they were like. We were in a hurry so we declined his offer, but decided to stay the night. We also requested a roll away bed and we were assured it would be in one of the rooms upon our return. I was the first to return and found the room to be spotless and no odors. I looked around for any signs of bugs and it was much too clean to be the home of unwanted pests. The rooms weren't fancy, but the roll away bed was in one of the rooms as promised and there was plenty of room to fold it out. We were also given connecting rooms as requested. The bathroom vanity in my room showed some fading, but it was clean, so that's not a complaint, just a statement. We were all knocked out of the tournament early and decided to head home early even if we had to pay for the 2nd night. When we explained our situation to the staffer he graciously only charged us for the one night. The only complaint any of us had was that the air conditioner was loud enough that it made it hard to hear the TV, but we weren't in the rooms all that much and the price made up for that. The room was arranged so it was roomier and cleaner than some pricier places we have stayed and we will definitly stay there again. I also worry about overnight parking and vandalism in strange locations as I drive a classic 1988 Corvette convertible. I had no worries here as it appears to be a safe, low crime area.

“Not worth the cheap price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

We needed a place to stay for the night. Microtel was the cheapest at this exit. The rooms had nothing but an uncomfortable bed, TV and noisy air conditioner. The cost was $55, but for scratchy towels and such a tiny room it would have been worth it to pay more. Just wanting a place to sleep while traveling was what we were looking for. The bed and pillows were so bad we both woke up with aches. They do provide a free breakfast of cereal. juice, coffee, toast and pancakes. Other than that you might want to miss this one!

“Stranded in a Snow Storm”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2010

When you think of spring break you don't normally think about snow storms but that is what stranded us in Joplin, MO and landed us at the Microtel Inn. Quite honestly this hotel falls in the bottom 2 hotels we've ever experienced (and I spend 20-30 nights a year in a hotel). For starters the star rating on this hotel is generous at 2 stars, probably closer to a 1 star motel experience other than there is an interior hallway and a continental breakfast (i.e. coffee and stale doughnuts). If we weren't stranded due to the snow storm we would have turned around and checked out after we saw the room but needless to say it was the only room open in Joplin due to all the other stranded travelers. Now, you might be asking, what was so bad about this hotel? Well for starters is is disgustingly dirty, not just out of date or run-down, out and out dirty. The upside is that if you are stuck in a snowstorm at least you won't be stuck in your car for the night...

“Great deal, nice room for price paid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2009

Room is small, but very comfortable and clean. Conveniently located to I-44, and there are lots of restaurants, etc close by. Front desk staff was very friendly. My mom and I were just passing through the area and were looking for a budget friendly place to sleep for a night. Will probably stop here again on the way home :-) If you are expecting lots of extras, stay somewhere else but this is an EXCELLENT value for price paid and is perfect for an overnight stoppver.
