My husband needed a surgical procedure and we chose Holiday Inn Express in Jefferson City because it was close to where he needed to be, an average motel according to other reviews on TripAdvisor. What we found was a clean facility, friendly and helpful staff, a 2-bed room with adequate space for a comfy stuffed chair with ottoman, a nice size desk with free high-speed internet service, TWO racks/tables for luggage, and those nice amenities of a small microwave oven (free popcorn) and a good size compact refrigerator (free soda and bottled water). We stayed extra days because of a blizzard that shut down the city, (no open restaurants, no open grocery stores, nothing). We were not faceless guests to the staff here. They called our room and offered to open their Express Breakfast bar so we would have something to eat that evening. We declined only because we had brought along snacks for a few of my husband’s dietary restrictions. I loved the buffet breakfast bar; they feature extremely tasty, warm cinnamon muffins and other options for a hot or just a simple breakfast. The staff here is above average – you will be treated as a person. The only thing I would say I liked least was that the TV in the Fitness Room didn't work.

Hotels were booked for track meet but was able to get a King size bed and a sofa bed. Front desk clerk on Thursday night was very helpful and informative on how to get to room and where to park.
Even with a hotel full of kids was quiet except for the coach yelling in the halls for the kids giving them instructions.
When unfolded sleeper sofa found sheets missing but desk clerk got them and delivered them to us ASAP.

When I checked in the man at the front desk seemed genuinely disinterested in helping me and rudely cut me off mid-sentence to finish dealing with me as quickly as possible so he could go back to not being bothered. I was given a room one floor BELOW the lobby (practically in the basement) which had a noisy refrigerator and an odd musty smell. At 11:30 at night I was woken from a dead sleep by a member of the staff who was attempting to enter my room. If he knocked it didn't wake me and by the time I realized what was going on the door was cracked open with only the bar lock preventing him from entering the room. It turned out that even though I had provided my signature and was given a room key, the Indifferent imbecile at the front desk never completed my registration in the computer and the room was showing up as vacant. Also, the ice and vending machines were on a different floor, overpriced, and had a terrible selection, and the pool was closed. If I ever find myself back in Jeff City, I'll sleep under a tree before I ever come back to this place. Absolutely horrid.

I was very disappointed with the service I received at this hotel. I arrived to find out that the pool and fitness center were closed due to renovation. They said that this is on their website but I looked and did not find it. I asked if they provided any kind of a pass with a local hotel or fitness center, they did not. They did offer a sister hotel with a pool. They also gave me the number for a local YMCA that wanted to charge $7 a day for a pass. The hotel should work a deal with the YMCA to make that more affordable. The room smelled like sewage or musty. Then when I was checking out, the hotel charged me taxes on my bill. I am with a government agency and we are tax exempt, they said I needed a tax exempt letter. I have never had to have a tax exempt letter before at this hotel or at any other hotel, that is why we are given the government rate because our reservation is made by the government. I talked with the staff about their Priority Club and was given the paperwork and credit for my stay but I don't believe that I will be using this membership. I don't believe I will stay at a Holiday Inn Express or its affiliates again and I for sure will not stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Jefferson City, MO on Jefferson St. I travel to Jefferson City 4 or 5 times a year and many of my coworkers stay in Jefferson City, I will discourage all of them not to stay at the Holiday Inn Express.
