We had high hopes when entering this classic mountain hotel. Unfortunately old and historic is not positive in all matters.
The hotel could definately start refurbishing their rooms because they had what I believe to be of too low standard. No heating in the bathroom. Old wooden furniture, a bit like you find in a typical cottage in Norway. Perhaps charming for some, but not what I expect from the cost of the accomodation.
The rooms were clean, nice view from the balcony (room 202), and the staff were helpful.
The dinner is the reason for a stay at the hotel (instead of the competing neighbors). We had a set piece menu with excellent halibut, reindeer and other seasonal goodness. Worth a detour alone! Our expectations for the breakfast went up, but were shot down quite fast the next morning. For a hotel talking about local values, short travelled food and so on it was a bit strange that the only item marked with a local production sign was the bread?! The bread is from Bakeriet i Lom which is worth a visit. Superb baked goods. Shop there for your car travel when leaving the village.
So all in all. We felt that this was nice, but with refurbishment of the rooms this could become great. And worth the money.
