I, too, stayed in this hotel and this town in May, 2011 and agree fully with ILUS. There is nothing about Tarascon or "Hotel de Provence" to attract or charm anyone as both are very poor.
Our front-facing room in this worn-down hotel from 80 years ago was large--a suite with a sunroom in fact--but very old, worn out (including the miserable bed), furnished with junk and neglected for many, many years. Our front view was a nothing, interesting only as it faced a crummy fast-food-and-soda shop which had to be a drug-dealing venue. It was visited only by Algerians or Moroccans in pricey cars for a few minutes, who then moved on quickly. A stupid-looking guy sat on the adjoining building's steps for hours with his cellphone--evidently the look-out whom I named "Goose".
Continental breakfast was poor, very simple, at one large table. There are no amenities but we did not care about that. I was happy to leave.
The town itself is washed up and filled with immigrants which only the French government wanted, 20-30 years ago. Not anymore. I would not stay in this town or hotel again or recommend it to any of my friends. Anyone who does stays there at his own peril.
