“beautiful little gem - delighted we found it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

This was an super chambre d'haute hotel in every respect. The service provided by Martine and Bernard was very personal and friendly and their advice on local places to visit, good restaurants and travel adivce was great. Martine's advice on best time of day to visit etc was faultless and ensured that we saw things at their best -eg restaurants for a good view of the sunset etc.
We had The Red Room which was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated in charming provencal style which suited the old building perfectly. Great attention to detail and very comfortable.
Breakfast in the courtyard was a pleasure, with Martine's home made yoghurt and local fresh bread each day something to look forward to.
Tarascon itself has limited interest beyond the fabulous castle but is well located, within easy reach of many places of interest. A lack of good local restaurants meant having to take the car to nearby towns to eat. Shame as this meant not being able to enjoy a nice bottle of local wine with dinner.
In all, a great find. We had a wonderful time here and werevery well taken care of!

“Beautiful and Historic Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

If you can imagine the ideal Provencal town house then this is it. It is a 15th-16th century building with a shaded courtyard in the centre, and a mark showing where the Rhone flood level reached in 1755! We had a lovely big room (on second floor) with air conditioning. Breakfast was in the courtyard surrounded by climbing roses and other exotic plants. Since the house is right in the middle of Tarascon, we were within easy walking distance of local restaurants and the railway station. Martine and Bernard were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and they have a good supply of maps and guides to borrow.
Tarascon is a bit of a hidden gem, being a very attractive little town. We chose it because of its central position in Provence and it proved very convenient for Avignon, Arles etc.
B and B comes no better than this. Note though that you have to pay cash which is always awkward when you stay for any length of time (we stayed 5 nights).

“A hidden treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2010

This Bed and Breakfast is a gem -- located a few blocks from the castle in the historic pedestrian section of the old city. Martine Laraison will welcome you, in fluent English or French, to this remodeled 17th-century home, complete with inner courtyard (where breakfast is served in warm weather).. On-street parking is available a short block away. The rates are reasonable, the location is central, the accommodations are spacious, the bread is fresh every day, and the welcome is warm and friendly -- what's not to like?

“La Rue du Chateau is a wonderful B&B with very nice hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2009

For our first place to stay on our first trip to France, we hit the jackpot. Lovely room, beautiful courtyard and such nice hosts. Martine and her husband used to be tourists in Provence before becoming part of this charming place. Every morning at breakfast Martine would help us with an itinerary for the day, including great restaurant suggestions in Tarascon and surrounding towns. Tarascon is a perfect place to set up your base camp to explore Provence. Well located and with easy access to the roads leading to the regions attractions. The area is full of history, beauty, and very nice local people that are really kind to tourists. One note, if you arrive during the Medieval Festival at the end of the August parking can be hard to find. There is enough parking, so don't let that deter you.

“Charming!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2009

I just got back from a visit to Provence for a wedding and stayed at the Rue du Chateau. It was amazing and I can't wait to get back for a longer stay. Martine, the owner, is fantastic and service oriented. The little courtyard for breakfast was so cute. We had a really lovely stay - and a great breakfast too! I only wish that my dog were allowed to come along.
