“Persistent Musty Smell & Deferred Maintenance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

Overwhelming musty smell in room, along with poorly repaired/unrepaired water damage to walls and baseboards. I was in the detached building (about 40 rooms) on the ground floor, so maybe the other rooms are okay. But I was also subjected to the continual noise of trucks on the nearby highway (Route 61). There's a stoplight in front of the hotel so the trucks make a lot of noise going up the hill from a dead stop. Otherwise the room was okay, except that the carpet was very damp, almost wet.

The free hot breakfast was pretty good. All of the budget hotels in the area are advertising F.H.B's so that must be a point of competition in the area. Scrambled eggs, biscuts & gravy, sausage patties, along with the usual fare. The bad thing was the lid to the trash can looks like it has never been cleaned. I didn't want to touch it to throw away the used plates. Makes me wonder about other cleaning practices.

Based mostly on the musty smell and traffic noise, I would not stay here again.

“good value, clean, nice motel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

I came with a group of 8 people, and we were all impressed with this motel. We had two rooms and they were next to each other with a door going in between which we loved. The rooms were both clean and comfortable. The guy at the front desk was prompt and friendly and it didn't take long to get checked in. One minor issue was that there was a group of teenagers at the pool at 3 am which woke us up. Also, there wasn't a lot of sitting space in the breakfast area. We had to take our breakfast to our room. But overall we were very pleased with the cleanliness and value of the motel.

“Great Value, Would Stay There Again”

I was hesitant to stay here after reading unfavorable reviews, but decided to give it a try since those reviews were not recent. Front desk service was prompt and courteous. My room was clean; bed was very comfortable; bathroom was spotless. If I had to find any complaints, it would have been the bathroom door/door trim; could have used a touch of paint in spots.. very minor. Also highway noise at night could possibly disturb you, but didn't bother me one bit. My room had a very nice frig and microwave. TV had all the cable stations I wanted and more. I enjoyed juice, coffee, fruit, bagels, eggs, sausage, and biscuits every day from the free Hot Breakfast Bar. I saw many guests use the pool. It is approximately an 8-minute drive to Mark Twain sites downtown. Dollar General is next door.

“Great hotel, coming back next month!”

The hotel was very clean, the staff was very friendly.
We really enjoyed the pool. Its close to down town Hannibal.
We had an issue with the door, but it was fixed immediately.
We were booked for one day, and we decided to stay another day once we spent some time there.
Not only is it close to downtown Hannibal, there is also a dollar store right next to it,
along with a couple gas stations, and close diners.
We have decided to come back for a few days in July.

“Filthy!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2009

My husband made the reservations at this hotel due to the fact that we were coming to Hannibal for his class reunion. Let me start by stating that we are accustomed to staying in Marriott properties due to his business travels, so I wasn't expecting much from this hotel. However, what we found upon check-in is beyond words!

We had mad reservations for a room with two double beds since our son was traveling with us. Upon arrival, we were given a room with one double bed and were told that was all they had and that was what we had requested. Wrong! So, we decided to go down to the room anyway figuring we didn't have much of an option. Immediately upon opening the door, a smell of smoke, alcohol and not sure what else comes blasting out of the room. The smell was almost unbearable. At that time, I went back up to the front desk and told them that the smell was unacceptable, only to be told once again that there was nothing they could do. No other rooms available to switch us. So . . . I go back down again, figuring I would just tough it out for one night. We begin unloading our car and luggage, and I notice that the carpet throughout the entire room was soaking wet (as if it had just been shampooed). Then I went to set our suitcase down on the luggage stand in the room, and I notice several small spiders climbing around on the wall. At this point I begin to panic and to investigate the room thoroughly. Apparently, there was some sort of infestation by the spiders, and we counted thirty on the walls, ceilings and elsewhere. A tour of the bathroom uncovered several small rollie pollie looking bugs in the shower, and then to top it all off, there was mold (not just a little either) growing along side the bed on the carpet that went up the side of the wall. Crazy. At this point I decide no way am I staying at this joint. We haul all of our luggage back to the car; head to the front desk and tell the clerk enough is enough and are on our way. Fortunately, we were able to get a room at the Hannibal Inn (which is another story), but at least it wasn't infested with spiders and mold!

A word of warning to travelers. If you have any kind of allergies I would not recommend this place. The mold can be a health hazard. I am sure the spiders could be too. Not sure if they were the type that can cause harm, but if I want to sleep with spiders, I plan on being in a tent out in a field somewhere!!!!
