“Is the really the best in Hannibal??”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2011

We stayed here upon a recommendation from a friend that swore it was the best place in Hannibal to stay, although she was probably right, this place is worth driving past and not turning around.

The hotel staff was very un-personable and loud in the early morning hours as we were located near the housekeeper stock room on the first floor, not to mention that I spotted three of them hovered over the computer in the guest business center on more than one occasion. The room was fair at best as the carpet was old and rank, the shower was old and looked dingy, the bed was not that great and the pillows were flat. The heater made awful noises that sounded like someone was clicker training a dog all night. It seems that I was there at the same time another user was because it smelled like sewer for a while and the floor in the breakfast room was all torn out, with NO sign saying anything about what happened, any apology for the pungent smell nor where to find where the breakfast had been moved to, we ate elsewhere that morning. The morning that we did get to eat breakfast there was little selection of anything. As a moderate traveler that has stayed at numerous hotels, this is by far the WORST Holiday Inn Express that I have ever stayed at.

The only kudos that I give this place is the lot was cleared quickly from all the snow that we had so it was easy to get in and out.

“Will not stay there again!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

I thought this Holiday Inn was like the other ones we have stayed before. But this one is old, smells bad, is in need of being torn down and builiding a new one. I wish I would have read the previous postings about this hotel. The beds were fine, towels, etc., but you can tell the carpet needs to be replaced. It looked dirty, I had to wear socks to walk around the room. The shower head is not that great with calcium deposits, and all worn out. The caulking in the shower area was done poorly and you can tell it needs to be replaced. In some areas it looked pink. The door to the shower area got stuck midway due to a bump on the floor. In my daughter's bedroom the A/C had a loud noise that was annoying when trying to sleep and the room was smelly.
It needs better lighting in the rooms too.
We stayed 6 nights while visiting family for Xmas. On the 4th day, a sewer pipe broke in the breakfast area, and they had to make a hole on the floor all along the breakfast counter. When we walked in during the day the smell of sewage was awful! They never posted a sign apologizing for the inconvenience. They finished repairing it by the next day and were serving breakfast in another room. We decided to eat breakfast somewhere else.
The employees were courteous but did not look professional in appearance.
I have heard that this is the best Hannibal has to offer, I just could not believe it. I guess it is not a big enough town to deserve a better quality hotel. I guess next time I will stay in Quincy, Ill. which is 20 minutes away.

“Swindled by the Check-in Staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

When we checked our rooms at 3:30, they were not what we had reserved. We went strait to the front desk to get it straitened out. We were told that the rooms we had reserved had be given to other guests. We were to late. Would we like to cancel our reservation? We called the Quality in and found that they had what we wanted. So, we said yes. I then expected a refund. No, the desk worker would niether give us rooms nor a refund! He said he had cancled the reservation and that was al!. We called Priority club, wich informed them the had to give us rooms or our money. They opted to give us rooms, but not the ones we reserved. If we didn't want just to be out the money we had to stay. So, we did say but never again!

“Probably the best hotel in Hannibal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

The other reviewers were not exaggerating about the smell in the hotel. It was BAD. I was on the 2nd floor and my ceiling had clearly been patched due to water damage but I'm not sure the smell was due to the leaks. I left the window open most of the night to try and get some fresh air in the room. The bathroom, with the exception of some hairs wrapped around the hair dryer, was actually pretty clean and well lit. The carpeting had been vacuumed and was spotless. The mattress on the bed was certainly not a pillowtop but at least there weren't any bedbugs! Sheets and pillowcases were immaculate. The A/C worked well and the room had a nice flat panel TV. Wireless also worked well. I'd stay here again but only if I had to be in Hannibal overnight. The smell cancels out the clean room.

“Clean and Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

My teenage son and I visited Hannibal primarily to visit the Mark Twain histoical aspects of the town. This hotel was recently renovated, clean and well appointed for a hotel of its class. The rooms are spacious, the beds and pillows were comfortable. The room was quiet and we were not bothered by noise form the hall or adjoining rooms. The towels were plentiful and soft. Breakfast was adequate but well stocked and everything seemed very clean. The location was not as near the historical sites as other hotels but in such a small town this is hardly worth noting. The room had a new TV. We did not use the pool so have no comment on that. The price was a little high at $105.00 for a double queen.
