“Not impressed at all.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

Where to start? Upon check-in the young lady at the desk acted put out to have to wait on me. The whole motel smelled like cat urine, especially at the doorways. There was a dirty towel thrown down in the floor in the hallway that was never removed. I'm not sure if someone just threw it down or if it was covering something, I was afraid to pick it up. None of the soda machines or snack machines worked. The hallways were dirty and didn't look like they had been cleaned in a couple of years. Our room was a good size with a fridge and microwave, but that is where the good stopped. The carpet was sticky and had a weird odor. The room had a general grungy, nasty feel to it. I stripped the beds to check the sheets and they appeared to be clean and were unwrinkled. The toilets were a joke. They were some sort of low water flow toilets and took 3 flushes after you would urinate just to make the yellow color go away, not to mention the toilet paper that never went away. Our friends staying across the hall changed rooms 3 times because of filth, hair in their bed & wrinkled sheets and over- flowing toilets. We called around to other hotels, but everything in Columbia was booked because of the MU game. Breakfast was not even close to edible. The gravy was ice cold, the sausage could have seriously hurt someone if you threw it at them and the bread for toast looked like something from the bakery outlet from 2 weeks ago. The coffee was fine. The counters were filthy and there were crumbs and "unidentifiables" behind the serving dishes and at the baseboards. We skipped breakfast because we didn't want to take a chance of getting sick. We did go to the pool and it was the best part of the motel. Large and clean. The only clean spot we found. There had been something wrong with the hot tub (gee, what a surprise) and they had emptied it. We definitely did not get $89 + tax worth of enjoyment out of this horrible motel. The only good part was that it was convenient to the interstate & MU campus. Next time I'm in Columbia and I have the choice between sleeping in my car or in this motel, I'm going to sleep in my car.

“Sleezy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

Very outdated. Carpet in room felt damp - wore my sandals at all times because I was afraid of what was on the floor. Carpet needed to be stretched at best - whole place really needed an overhaul. Cobwebs in room in several places. AC worked good. Bathroom was as clean as one could expect - can't really do much with ugly except try and clean it as best as you can. Pool area was under construction as they were replacing the hot tub - pool was still available. Hallway smelled like smoke. Some rooms were labeled as no smoking - our room was one of those but still had faint smoke odor. Electric panel boxes in hall way going down towards the pool were all unlocked - seems like a real hazard to me. We just felt scummy after our stay. We have stayed in this hotel several years ago and with this stay we will never stay there again. We paid $95 for a double queen room - no frig, no microwave, out dated, dirty, scummy - just down right gross. "High speed" wireless internet did not work well at all - very slow. Go down the road and stay at Drury Inn for the same kind of money with a double room, free drinks and snacks in the evening, frig, microwave, clean, nice pool area, free breakfast in AM.

“Not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2009

The good
It's close to the highway Exit 125 on MO I-70.
indoor swimming pool is decent.

The bad
I agree with most of the reviewers here concerning the cleanliness of the hotel. It definitely needs a lot of work.
The toilet does not flush properly in RM 103
The grounds is too near and too open to the highway and they lock the lobby on both sides (in and out) from 1100 pm to 0700 AM. So even though nothing happen to my car, security seems to be a bit of a concern.

The ugly
The staff is terrible. The afternoon clerk barely acknowledge my existence when we checked-in but he did wake me up at 1030 PM to make to come to the hotel lobby so that he could copy my credit card bacuase apparently he wa sunsure if the charges went through. It sounded a little fishy but since I was sleep deprived I allowed him to make a copy. The next day I did have enogh presence of mind to take the copy of my credit card when the charges did show up on the morning bill.
The mornign clerk tried to top this poor performance by not opening the breakfast hall at 0600 am on a friday. When I asked her why it wasn't opened she told me that it was supposed to open at 0700 am. Not wanting to argue, I told her that was fine but she might want to change her sign on the door that clearly staed that breakfast is served at 0600 am. She mere said that breakfast is served at 0700.
The incident may be too specific and would certainly not apply to all other traveller but it does show an alarming lack of customer service training for the staff of this hotel.
Defintiely not recommended. The only reason why I picked this place was that it allowed pets and only cost 6000 points of choicehotel points.

“I loved it!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2008

I stayed just one night, got in late they had a room...It was a very clean and comfortable room, and quiet, which is a big thing for me!! And after I checked in, my car wouldn't start in the driveway. The next morning the manager did everyhting he could to find me some jumper cables, and we (Omar, an employee and I) went next door to U-haul for some. We used the managers (owner?) car to try and jump start mine, which didn't work. So after the maintnance guy, John, loaned me some tools, Omar gives me a ride down to the local O'reillys with the battery to have it checked. It's a long story, but I finally go the car fixed, but I wouldn't of been able to without the great help of the staff of the hotel, and the U-haul.
The breakfast area is a little small, but they are going to fix that. Evidently it is under new ownership, so they are trying to improve things, but it seemed good to me. I will stay there again.

  • Liked — The people
  • Disliked — The smallish breakfast area, which they plan on changing
