This is an older (Early 1970's?) former Best Western Hotel. Located just off I-70 and US 63, southeast quadrant, property is close to the Univ of Missouri Womens and Childrens Hospital. Hotel Restaurant is closed, but there is a newer restaurant and bar in parking lot. Check-in was pleasantly completed by a competent desk clerk. Rooms are accessed via interior corridors. Furnishings are older, but room appeared to be clean. While I prefer parking by my room, there was ample, well lit parking by the room section entrance. Heat was not on at room arrival but the room warmed up OK. Tub handle had steady drip. Breakfast had make your own waffles, biscuits and gravy, 2 types of cold cereal, including a non-named raisan bran, some "case lot" pastries, and a couple of juices, milk, coffee, hot chocolate. Overall, very decent option for $47.99 (coupon), marquee advertised rates from $49. Outdoor pool was closed for the season.

Our reservations were fudged first off. We lost the money we had prepaid for the room and had to pay again. Of course a higher rate. $78. There are plenty of places in Columbia better than here for around $80. We had a smoking room. Smelled like new paint and gave us both headaches. A lamp in the room wouldn't work at all(main lamp on a switch inside the door) which was an inconvenience. No ash trays in a smoking room. Had to search for a tv remote which was in a drawer of the dresser. The desk table was battered and looked like a $1 garage sale piece. Lamp shades were stained. Beds smelled of mildew. Something brown had trickled down the wall next to the headboard area of the bed. Bathroom was cramped and the toilet paper roll was inconveniently behind the toilet. Soap scum surrounding the shower. Vent in bathroom had god knows what build up on it. The entry door had corrosion all over the handles and the secondary lock. Scratches all over the door from maybe a pet. Carpets stained. At least the pillows were comfortable.

The room was clean but that's the only thing I have good to say about it. All I wanted was a good clean and comfortable place to stay. The beds were hard as a rock. The pillows they give you are the size of a throw pillow of not smaller--very uncomfortable. You can hear through the walls as far as peoples conversations and even taking showers. I was awaken at 2:30 in the morning hearing the conversations and the shower. Besides tossing and turning because the bed was terrible and what I call no pillows. The breakfast was terrible if you call it a breakfast.

This place was decent in terms of cleanliness, quietness, and location, but the front desk staff was nowhere to be found on early morning checkout and when they finally appeared they gave me an erroneous receipt with someone else's credit card number on it!! The breakfast selection included only one healthy item: apples and oranges, however, these were the most horribly pathetic pieces of fruit I'd ever seen. Not a single fruit was worth even trying to eat. The oranges looked about 5 years old. Ridiculous!!!
The room did have a fridge and microwave, and the shampoo and conditioner and soap are very nice. The fitness room is very underequipped, but at least there is a treadmill and you can get into the room 24 hours a day, which is convenient.
