My two sisters and myself drove into Columbia to visit our Uncle at the VA hospital and decided to spend the night. Really, all we were looking for was a cheapy motel that was clean and had a coffee maker. Candlewood Suites fit the bill and then some.
The front desk staff were beyond friendly and helpful. Since we were visiting family in the hospital, we were given the hospital rate of $55 per night. Our room had 2 comfy double beds with nice linens, no bed begs (we checked) and great pillows. It was equipped with a full size refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, 2 burner stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, cooking utensils, pots, pans, skillet and dinnerware for 4. Also provided is dish and dishwasher detergent, paper towels, prepackaged coffee, dish towels and pot holders. Obviously since we only stayed one night, we didn't use the above ammenities, but if you're looking for an extended stay....this is a great value.
Bathroom was VERY clean, which is highly important to us and was equipped with nice plush towels, shampoo, make-up remover towlettes, soap and shower cap.
The room also had a decent sized closet with hangers, iron/board and laundry basket, which leads me to mention that there is a washer and dryer to use for FREE...just bring your own detergent. FREE wi-fi is available and a decent sized desk if you're travelling for work.
If you're looking for a few snacks or even toiletries, there is a little store located across from the front desk.....very reasonable prices. Cans of soda and microwave popcorn were 50 cents each, bottled water was $1.00. They go by the honor system...fill out a little slip of paper with the amount owed and it's charged to your room. Totally unheard of these days!
The rooms have a DVD player and you can check out movies for FREE at the front desk. Ok selection, but if you're picky about that, bring your own.
This was an incredible value and if I were in the area for an extended period of time, this is where I would stay.
Only negative I have is that the room smelled of something like old bacon grease. Bring Oust or Febreze if you're sensitive to smells.
For the money we paid, this hotel receives a 5 out of 5 from us!
