“Nice property, horrible service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Stayed at the hotel for one night on business. Checked in and was give the key to a dirty occupied room. Then moved to a room without a working AC unit. Finally 3rd time the charm and things went much better from there. Lobby bar was nice place to relax, rooms were new and updated. Only downside is the location and it's a long cab ride to Downtown ST. Louis.

“5 Star but small rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Stayed for the weekend during a charity benefit and it is FIRST CLASS. The only complaint I would have is that the rooms are very small. The balcony is great with double doors and you can stand on it but its really too small for chairs to sit and have drinks. You will be very impressed with the service and everything else. Once again expensive (which you know) but very small rooms

“I can understand the "Ritz Lite" nickname”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I read in some reviews that this was considered to be a "Ritz Lite" property. I can sort of see that. The service was fantastic and the front desk clerk (I think his name was Kevin?) was outstanding. Really nice and helpful. The female attendant in the gym was also super nice. Our room was okay, but not the nicest or most modern. I think overall what I had a problem with most was that the hotel just seemed kind of shabby.. like it really needed a major overhaul. The pool really does not look as good in person as it does in the pictures- it really shows its age. There was nothing particularly wrong with the place, and like I said, all staff encounters were very pleasant, but the property did not strike me as being quite up to Ritz standards aesthetically.

“A very nice hotel but a little stuffy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I was staying in this hotel with my friend on a roadtrip and the hotel was very nice and had an old world charm. On our way to the hotel we got a flat tire and the staff at the front desk were very helpful in calling around to find different tire stores to get it fixed at and parking the car somewhere where it wouldn't need to be moved. The rooms were very spacious and well appointed and we got a very deep sleep here.

The biggest problem with the hotel is the location. It is not near downtown, with limited public transit and there is no nightlife in the area. If you are looking to use the Ritz as a base for exploring St. Louis, there are other hotels which are closer to the downtown area that I would recommend. The only other issue we had while at the hotel was that some of the guests were on the pretentious side and made some comments since my friend and I were both in our 20s. While this is no reflection on the hotel, it is indicative of the guests who stay here- slightly older and white.
