“Don't stay here if you are afraid of roaches or are elderly.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2009

We attempted to stay at the motel 8 on our return from a cruise. Checked in at 7:30 pm. I was traveling with my elderly handicapped mother and my husband and niece. We got 2 rooms even though they didn't have a handicap room we took one on first floor and my husband and I took the 2nd floor room. My mother went in and went right to sleep. After my husband and I returned after getting something to eat he had to clean a pile of asian beetle off the air conditioner and then proceeded to lay on the bed but first picked up a bunch of small black spots that looked like bugs. He laid down on the bed and recieved red bumps that itched and said it felt like something was biting him. He then killed a roach on the night stand. We went down to the desk demanding a refund. I received a refund for my room but my elderly mother who could not stay in the hotel alone did not get a refund. When we demanded the refund as she could not stay there alone the desk clerk called the police on us. We were polite to her but she said we were yelling. The officer asked her to stop yelling at me and instructed me on actions to take to try to get her money refunded. I feel they discriminate against the elderly handicap and will never stay in a super 8 motel again. They also had more empty rooms on first floor but we were told that they were not clean as people checked out early, so apparently we were not the only one leaving this hotel.

We stopped at this hotel on a lengthy road trip. We did not know how far we would get and did not call ahead for reservations. Stopped in after 10 pm to check for vacancies. The clerk was pleasant. There were only smoking rooms left and when I hesitated she offered to show me a room first, I declined as we were willing to take the remaining room due to the time of night. I was also surprised at the room rate. We were expectedly offended by the overpowering odor of the room, the carpet had a patch that had been replaced, poorly, and not maintained so it was unraveling all around the edges right in the center of the room. The carpets in the room, hallway and breakfast area were unvacuumed and sticky and matted. The bathroom was clean but stained with cigarette burns. There was debris visible all along the wall behind the nightstands and beds. Our beds were poorly made. The breakfast was poor by current industry (low-frills) standards and no coffee was made. The clerk was very apologetic and responsive but was handling all front desk duties as well as breakfast.

“It's a trap...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2007

Summary: I booked a king non-smoking and was told upon arrival that there was only a king smoking available. When I tried to cancel, they told me that I had to pay for at least one night because I had a reservation with a credit card on file. Not cool.

Details: Several weeks before my stay, I checked the major travel sites, the hotel website, and called the property directly to find the lowest rate. The best rate was by booking directly, so I did.

When I arrived at the property, the front desk attendant told me that I had booked a king smoking room. I am allergic to cigarette smoke, and I would never book a smoking room. I asked if there were any king non-smoking rooms available, which there were not.

I called area hotels to find alternate accommodations, and then went to the desk again to cancel my reservation. The attendant told me that I would be charged the first night because I had a reservation which I had not cancelled 24 hours in advance. I explained that there was no way I could stay in a smoking room, and that I required a king room (which they did not have in non-smoking).

There was no manager on site, and the employee seemed unable or unwilling to release me from the reservation. I called customer service, held for 10 minutes, and spoke with a representative who placed me on hold and then called the property (while I watched on hold in the lobby). I was promptly released from my reservation.

It is absurd that I had to go through this process. The clerk should have apologized and issued a cancellation without the fuss.

This place is a trap. Watch out.

Room: I stayed in a King room, non-smoking for one night. It was very clean. They booked me into a Disabled accessible room (i am not disabled). Very large bathroom. Room was updated and had a nice size room refrigerator. Bedding was clean.

Pool: Small, Hottub not working (empty).

Rate: I got the goverment rate, $56.xx per night.

Continental Breakfast: If you are health concious, it was not good. Bagels (plain & cinnamon, danish, two cereals (fruit loops, chocolate pebbles). Coffee and juice.

Staff: Nice.

Location: A few miles (approx. 5) away from the commercial district and university.

Based on the comparable available government rates at other hotels, I will probably stay at other hotels based on their expanded amenities. But this was a good, clean, basic motel.

The staff was very friendly. They allowed me an early check-in, for no extra charge. They had continental breakfast, Wi-Fi (just in the ground floor rooms). The bedding was clean and new. My room also had a dorm-size fridge. A nice place!
